Tesla Offers Vinyl Wraps on its Vehicles in China, Might Expand to New Markets

Tesla is planning to expand its in-house vinyl wrap service already offered in its Chinese delivery centers.

Everyone would agree that selecting the perfect car includes choosing the right color too. Most automakers in the world offer a select number of color variants, and anything other than that requires customizations through third-party auto shops.

Well, not anymore. Tesla plans to provide vinyl wraps for its cars very soon, and the idea is already creating a lot of buzz. To make this dream a reality, the EV company has been investing a lot in improving its factory paint shops all around the world.

In April, Elon Musk tweeted, “Giga Berlin will have the world’s most advanced paint shop, with more layers of stunning colors that subtly change with curvature.”

To say that the concept looks promising would be an understatement.

Tesla is already providing wrap services in China, and Musk’s tweet suggested that the paint shops in Fremont and Shanghai will get an upgrade soon.

Unfortunately, as of now, almost all Tesla customers are still offered only a limited number of color palettes to choose from. However, this might change soon as Tesla has already started showcasing prototypes of its different models wrapped in custom vinyl livery.

For example, in one of Tesla’s recent official launch events, a Model 3 was presented in a matte black vinyl wrap. This flat black Model 3 also appeared in one of Tesla’s own branded promotion videos.

Interestingly, before Tesla even decided to make custom vinyl wraps for its cars, a lot of other companies were already providing this customization service. One of those is Signature Custom Wraps, based in South Florida. This company’s business model revolves around wrapping Tesla’s in custom-made vinyls, some of them even receiving colors like Ocean Shimmer Blue, Metallic Midnight Red, Tangerine Dream, and Nardo Grey.

Tesla currently offers this service in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Suzhou, and Shenzhen. However, the US-based company plans to expand across China and offer custom vinyl services in more cities.

The idea of Tesla offering custom vinyl color palettes sounds terrific even though the project is still in its embryonic stages if evaluated from a global perspective. Nevertheless, if this becomes a reality, it could be a game-changer and might push other manufacturers to follow in Tesla’s footsteps.
