Škoda devised a smartphone app that will ‘listen’ to the car in order to diagnose problems based on sound patterns.
Not only can Škoda’s Sound Analyser app detect engine problems, but it can also help diagnose other units’ issues. So far, the app can recognize ten different types of sounds, including the ones coming from the steering system, air conditioning, or even the dual-clutch automatic gearbox.
Whenever the app detects an abnormal sound from the systems mentioned above, Artificial Intelligence automatically uses an algorithm to work out the problem and suggests a quick fix. Škoda claims that the app will dramatically reduce the time spent at a repair shop.

“Sound Analyser is a prime example of the new opportunities digitalization at Škoda can create, even in terms of aftersales. We will continue to consistently use artificial intelligence technologies to offer our customers an even more personalized service, thus enhancing the customer experience even further.” – Stanislav Pekaf, Škoda Aftersales boss.
Škoda’s Sound Analyzer has been put to trial and tested in 14 countries, including Germany, France, Austria, and Russia, since June 2019, bagging in a 90 percent success rate with 245 Škoda dealers across the globe.
Even though the app is only compatible with Škoda’s own models, it’s nonetheless a significant game-changer. The app is still in a trial phase but will soon be available as a fully functional application for company technicians.
