Rivian has unveiled the Adventure Network, a charging infrastructure comprising 3500 fast chargers at 600 sites across North America.
The auto manufacturer released a comprehensive map of the charging sites offering 200 kW charging speeds. Charging points will be installed on a few of the busier paths later this year, and Rivian plans to have developed the whole Adventure Network by 2023—a charging network exclusively for R1T pickup and the R1S SUV owners.
Rivian aims to improve the locations to 300+ kW charging rates in the future but will start at a 200 kW charging speed. In only 20 minutes, either of its vehicles would be charged for a range of up to 140 miles. For the next stop, the built-in navigation system will inform owners regarding the nearest charging station’s location.
Rivian aims for its vehicles to be among the most sustainable models, thanks to its charging network operated entirely using clean energy sources, such as solar and wind energy. Furthermore, Rivian is deploying over 10,000 low-output waypoint chargers at stores, food joints, hotels, parks, and other locations across the continent to further strengthen its presence.
When it comes to the Rivian R1S and R1T, these slow chargers will offer output speeds of just 11.5 kW, good enough to add 25 miles of range with one hour of charging.
Out of the 3500 chargers Rivian aims to deploy, it is still unknown how many of them will be installed by the end of 2021. But, we know for sure that the company will start by installing Level 2 chargers in all state parks in Colorado.
As of now, Rivian has not disclosed any pricing information regarding its Adventure Network. More details are expected to come soon.
