Porsche and New York fashion label Aimé Leon Dore (ADL) have teamed up on a 911 Super Carrera restoration project.
Introduced in 1978, the 911 Super Carrera has played a significant role in providing a style statement for Porsche. Back in the day, it packed a 3.0-liter engine along with a Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection system. The production period ran between 1978-1983, and Porsche produced a total of 58,000 units. Out of these, one unit made its way to the restoration project.
This is not the first time that the brands have collaborated. Last year, they worked together to restore a Type 964 911 Carrera 4 for the New York fashion week. Just like the 964, the 911 Super Carrera is purely a passion project and won’t be up for sale.
ALD founder and creative director Teddy Santis said, “The vision for this project was always to portray the Super Carrera with a completely different type of intimacy than the 964 but in a way that would feel equally impactful,” said Teddy Santis, ALD founder, and creative director.
He also said that the design ideas and creativity for the project came from the childhood days that he spent on a Greek island and took inspiration from the beautiful things that get better with time and age.
The restoration process involved a lot of attention to detail. The 911 Super Carrera exterior features the classic Porsche olive color along with the fun-looking rally-inspired auxiliary lights on the bonnet. Furthermore, Fuchs wheels and a roof rack have added to the beauty.
For the interior, Santis have combined elegant materials and colors in a beautiful way. The designer used Persian carpets as floor-mats and has also incorporated them into door panels. Porsche and ADL also restored the original Recaro seats. Every inch of leather and bouclé you’ll see inside has been handcrafted.
The restored 911 Super Carrera premiered in New York City, at the heart of Manhattan. Aimé Leon Dore also launched a capsule collection that used materials and design patterns from the restored car project.
