Morgan Motor Company is saying goodbye to the Morgan 3 Wheeler, at least for now.
The iconic British manufacturer truly celebrates traditional automobiles’ legacy while merging it with modern tech, ultimately bringing in a breath of fresh air amidst the monotonous modern automotive industry. The Spartan Morgan 3 Wheeler is one of the company’s best-selling models, with over 2,500 units sold.
The P101 limited edition will receive the same drivetrain as the regular model, an 82 hp S&S 1998cc V-twin paired with a Mazda MX-5-sourced transmission, good enough for a 0-62mph time of 6 seconds. The engine’s approval expires in 2021, which is the main reason why Morgan is bringing production to a halt.
The Morgan P101 comes with a distinct look “inspired by prominent design features of Morgan’s three-wheeled models,” including a gold-colored composite resin tonneau cover taken from the 2016 EV3 Concept, matching low-drag aero-disc wheels, as well as low-slung Hella 9-inch spotlights. Going the extra mile, the manufacturer paid particular attention to details such as alternative black and white ceramic-coated straight-cut exhausts, body-color-matching fly screens, and P101 badging.
Apart from the two primary body colors, the Deep Black or the Satin White Silver, four exclusive graphic packs are available — Belly Tank, for a salt flat racer-inspired look, white-on-black military-themed ‘Dazzelship,’ WWII RAF Plane-inspired ‘Aviator’ and Morgan race car-inspired ‘Race Car’ pack.
Only 33 P101 will be produced, all of which have already been sold for £45,000 (or more) by UK and US dealerships.
Going down in flames? We think not!
Morgan has hinted that the 3 Wheeler might make a comeback at some point. Unfortunately, it won’t be soon.
