Mercedes-Benz Previews Concept EQT All-Electric Minivan

Concept EQT is Mercedes-Benz’s intention to join the upcoming T-Class zero-emission with the rest of its EQ lineup.

Mercedes-Benz just presented a concept aiming to bring luxury and EV technology to the minivan segment. The concept van is based on Renault’s CMF-B platform, yet it’s designed to represent the three-pointed star brand proudly.

Worth mentioning, the Mercedes-Benz Concept EQT showcases many intriguing design features over the upcoming T-Class model. But keep in mind that it’s still just a concept. This will probably not be the model’s final production form, although the manufacturer claims it will be very similar (but they always say that).

The Concept EQT has a front dominated by Mercedes’ EV signature grille filled with a 3D star pattern and, of course, the brand’s logo. The narrow LED headlights give the vehicle an elegant and futuristic look, a feature we expect to make it into production. Over at the back, the thin upside-down U-shaped LED strip connects the tail lamps just below the rear window for quite a distinctive look.

Mercedes has engineered the body keeping in mind the target audience comprised of families enjoying casual activities on weekends and needing a lot of cargo space and flexibility without sacrificing convenience and luxury.

The EQT concept stands on 21-inch wheels and measures 195 inches long, while the production model will be offered in two distinct configurations—a short and a long wheelbase. The shorter model will accommodate five occupants, while the long wheelbase will fit seven passengers, including three baby seats in the second row.

On the inside, the van features Mercedes’ MBUX infotainment system along with a center floating screen. To clearly indicate that the Concept EQT belongs to the brand’s electric range, there are blue decorative elements on the console and other interior surfaces. It’s important to mention that while the steering wheel and gear lever are now upholstered in white Nappa leather, the production model will be wrapped in nylon, at least in the basic trim.

Unfortunately, the German giant hasn’t revealed any information regarding the drivetrain yet, but we know that Renault will provide the power units. Several reports claim that the T-Class will be offered in both ICE and electric versions. The petrol engine will be a 1.2-liter unit that can develop 113 hp, whereas the 1.5-liter diesel engine will have a range of outputs from 74 to 109 horsepower.

As for the electric variant, Mercedes-Benz might go for a 101 horsepower electric motor along with a 45kWh battery, a setup good enough for 165 miles of range as seen in the Kangoo E-Tech Electric with similar specs.

The production variant of the Concept EQT should be available in 2022. More details to come soon.
