Maserati Meets Fragment Ghibli Special Edition

Maserati Reveals Limited Edition Ghiblis Inspired by Japanese Street Culture

Harajuku icon Hiroshi Fujiwara creates two Maserati Limited Edition models perfectly blending Italian design and Japanese non-conformism.

Maserati continually aspires to reinvent itself as an avant-garde brand synonymous with luxury and sophistication. Intending to push the boundaries once again, what better way than to join hands with world-famous Japanese artist and street culture icon Hiroshi Fujiwara to create two genuinely exceptional special edition Ghiblis named Operanera and Operabianca.

A 1980s Tokyo street fashion pioneer, Hiroshi Fujiwara blended his style with Maserati’s through his brand Fragment Design, creating a fascinating combination embodied in these two Ghiblis. The Limited Edition models born from the Maserati Fuoriserie customization program were showcased in an exclusive global event in Tokyo as what Maserati calls “a melodic duet,” whatever that means.

Fujiwara based his creations on a Ghibli GranLusso foundation and went for two different liveries: a first glossy and opaque black variant and a second in glossy white with opaque black accents, creating a chromatic effect. A new badge on the revised front grille is a standout detail, while the Fragment logo on the C-pillar and 20-inch wheels in matte black Urano finish round off the exterior customizations.

Another distinguishing feature of this limited edition Maserati Ghibli is the inscription M157110519FRG underneath the unique triple air vents, right above the front wheels. The first four characters refer to the Ghibli identification code, while the next six digits refer to November 5, 2019, reminiscent of the initial meeting between Fujiwara and Maserati. Finally, the last three characters are an acronym of the Fragment brand.

The interior flaunts plush leather and Alcantara upholstery accented with contrasting silver inlays, the iconic Trident logo on the seat headrests, and blue seat belts. And worth mentioning, a limited-edition capsule collection has also been launched in connection with the new Ghiblis, including a range of items designed as part of the same partnership between Maserati and Fujiwara.

Maserati is yet to reveal pricing and specifications for the Operanera and Operabianca limited edition. The availability will be disclosed at a later date as well. However, if you intend to get your hands on one, you better be quick, though. Only 175 examples of these Operanera and Operabianca limited edition Ghiblis will ever be made.
