Leaked: Lexus LX600 VIP to be a High-Performance Luxury Off-Roader

The Lexus LX600 VIP would be an ultra-luxurious SUV with great off-road capabilities that would share the same underpinnings as the all-new Land Cruiser.

Lexus excels at producing luxurious vehicles that can withstand the grueling test of time. Almost synonymous with reliability, comfort, durability, and high performance, Lexus’s expertise in making beautiful and powerful cars is unquestioned. But you know what Lexus isn’t good at? Keeping its upcoming projects a secret. The Japanese automaker ended up having its best and most attractive project to date leaked. We have the first information on the all-new Lexus LX600 courtesy of a Spanish forum Chochespias, who circulated a screenshot of a list containing the name of the SUV.

A spec sheet that leaked on the LandCruiserUpdates page on Instagram featured three Lexus SUVs. Three had the name LX600 tag, and two others were LX570, just like the current-gen model. The LX600 variants listed are LX600, LX600 F-Sport, and LX600 VIP, all packing four-wheel drive and automatic transmissions.

What seems like a screenshot of a leaked internal official document teased the launch of the new LX, which is supposed to replace the company’s flagship luxury SUV, LX570. In addition to multiple trim levels, this forbidden fruit of a screenshot hinted at two-engine options for this new SUV. This really should not be a surprise as the news of a new LX SUV came a few days after Toyota has officially introduced the 300 Series Land Cruiser. Since the new Land Cruiser won’t be available in the US, an equivalent Lexus model was imminent, and we just might be looking at it right now.

Going by the new trim names, we can conclude the new LX600 would follow the exact architecture of the 300 Series Land Cruiser. Hence, it would be safe to assume that the upcoming LX SUV would borrow the Land Cruiser’s turbocharged V6 engine and the 10-speed automatic transmission system in place of the LX570’s naturally aspirated V8. Naturally, this would mean more juice; the Land Cruiser’s 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 can produce 409 HP and 479 lb-ft of torque.

What’s interesting is the multiple trim names that we got to see. For example, the entry-level LX570 models would probably feature the same V8 powertrain, albeit in an all-new body.

However, the model that immediately caught our attention was the top-of-the-line LX600 VIP. Could it be possible the “VIP” tag would be something along the lines of the LS sedan’s executive package? Who knows, it might be.

We also cannot brush off the possibility that the Lexus LX600 could be an armored version of the new LX series. A bullet-proof ultra-luxurious LX doesn’t sound too bad. There might be a third scenario, far less interesting but highly plausible. Namely, the “VIP” tag just might be a peppy label for a super comfortable and posh SUV that can also ace off-road situations.

Regardless, it’s good to see that Lexus is bringing a version of the all-new Land Cruiser. The adventure and overlanding market continues to expand, and a luxury SUV with excellent off-road abilities would certainly sell well.

We cannot wait to find out more when Lexus reveals the SUV (hopefully) at the end of this year. Fingers crossed!
