Chevrolet Closes a Chapter: The Final Sixth-Gen Camaro Rolls Off

Chevy has completed the production of the final Camaro ZL1 Collector’s Edition. So what’s next?

And there you have it, folks; the production of the sixth-gen Camaro has come to an end. Yes, you read that right. After a solid nine-year run with just one facelift, this American muscle legend is taking its final bow, with no immediate successor in sight.

Chevrolet shared its affection for the Camaro in an email to Road&Track, describing the car as more than just a machine, but a passion project that captured hearts worldwide. The brand credits the sixth-gen Camaro with not only winning fans but also drawing new generations to Chevy. It praised its athleticism, composure, and road dominance – a fitting tribute to a true road warrior.

But don’t think the last Camaro is slipping away quietly. It’s going out with a bang! The final unit is a 2024 manual ZL1 Collector’s Edition, marking 57 years of Camaro production. This special edition, limited to just 350 units, stands out with its Panther Black Matte finish and a unique serialized logo on the steering wheel.

Under the hood sits the legendary 6.2-liter supercharged LT4 V8 engine, pumping out 650 hp and 650 lb-ft of torque. And if that’s not enough, Hennessey offers an Exorcist Final Edition package, boosting it by an additional 350 horses. Now that’s a farewell!

So, what about a seventh-gen Camaro? Well, Chevrolet’s history with the Camaro is a bit of a rollercoaster. This isn’t the first time it has retired the model without a clear successor. But this time, there’s a twist. Despite the SUV market’s growth, the Camaro has been holding its own, boasting over 24,000 sales in just the third quarter of this year – a 28.7% increase from last year.

Scott Bell, Chevrolet’s Global Vice President, hints that the Camaro story isn’t over yet. GM has confirmed plans for a seventh-gen model, rumored to be based on the Cadillac CT4. But specifics? Those are still under wraps. Plus, there’s talk of a Camaro EV sub-brand in the works, potentially mirroring the Mustang Mach-E approach.

As we say goodbye to the sixth-gen Camaro, we can’t help but reflect on its nine remarkable years. It’s been a thrilling ride, and we’re eager to see what Chevy has up its sleeve next for the Camaro legacy. Stay tuned, muscle car fans – the story isn’t over yet!
