Honda Accord gets a slight refresh on the outside, along with an improved hybrid powertrain with more power and better efficiency.
The 2021 Honda Accord hit dealerships last week, allowing us to inspect the new model closely. The car doesn’t seem to receive a complete overhaul, but it does get some significant outer aesthetics changes.
Specifically, the front dark-chromed grille is now wider with some sort of boxed-like feel to it and smaller fog lamps. In my eyes, the new look makes the new Accord looks a lot more in-your-face. However, Honda had another reason for the changes — the front radar for the advanced safety system.
Honda claims that the 2021 Accord now comes with brighter LED headlights, providing a longer reach than the previous model. The overall body design didn’t receive any other notable changes, apart from new wheel designs.
Worth mentioning, Honda added Sonic Gray Pearl color option on Sport, Sport SE, and Touring variants.
Under the Hood
The new model gets six different trim levels — LX, Sport, Sports Special Edition, EX-L, Sport 2.0T, and Touring.
All models except the two top ones, Accord Sport 2.0T and Touring, receive a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, churning out a healthy 192 hp and 192 lb-ft of torque, and comes exclusively with a CVT transmission.
The two top trims get a 2.0-lite turbo inline-four, producing 252 hp and 273 lb-ft of torque when paired with Honda’s 10-speed automatic transmission.
Meanwhile, the 2021 Accord Hybrid gets four trims — Base variant, EX, EX-L, and Touring. In the electrified model, the 2.0-liter four-cylinder ICE will double up as a generator. The Hybrid produces a combined 212 hp while also delivering 48mpg of combined mileage. Honda also tweaked the powertrain for a better response; something older hybrids were lacking.
Same Old Interior with Upgraded Technology
The 2021 Accord features the same interior design. Base models get fabric upholstery, contrasting against the dual-toned dashboard. However, it’s important to mention that, just as its predecessor, the new model is spacious and comfortable.
When it comes to upgrades, the Accord now comes with an eight-inch touch display and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capability on every model. Also, rear passengers now have access to USB ports below the center console.
New Standard Safety Features
The standard Honda Sensing suite provides collision warning, automatic emergency braking, rear-cross traffic, adaptive cruise control, and many other safety features. Meanwhile, the top variants get a low-speed braking control system.
Price starts from $25,725 for the petrol model and $27,325 for the hybrid.
