Here’s What a Modern-Day DeLorean DMC-12 Would Look Like

A designer reimagined the DeLorean DMC-12, and the end result looks stunning.

One of the most iconic and widely known cars featured in a movie is, by far, Back to the Future’s DeLorean DMC-12. The vehicle came to the forefront when Doc turned it into a trash-powered time machine. For people born in the era, the DeLorean is unforgettable.

In real life, the DM had a fuel-injected Volvo-Peugeot-Renault V6 engine, and it wasn’t incredibly fast. However, its unusual and futuristic styling made it an instant design icon. That being said, the DeLorean was quickly criticized for a myriad of mechanical and quality issues. Nonetheless, everybody agreed that the DMC-12 looked quite stunning.

DeLorean produced sports cars in Northern Ireland and manufactured an estimated 9,400 units. The production run lasted for only two years (1981-1982) due to poor sales, though.

Besides, due to poor management, production costs exceeded the original estimated cost, putting more pressure on DeLorean. The unfavorable exchange rates between GBP and USD made matters even worse.

Despite the problems, the DMC-12 has a lasting legacy, and some companies still offer parts and restoration services. A new DeLorean Motor Company, unaffiliated with the original, might even restart production in 2021 in a new facility in Humble, Texas.

Following the rumor, Angel Guerra, a car designer, released a DMC concept with some design similarities to the original but with a modern twist. Unlike the DMC-12, Angel’s concept car looks more like a supercar. Besides, thanks to powerful electric motors, it should exert the performance to match the image and finally live up to expectations.

Please note, though, that Angel is not related to the company that will restart the DMC-12 production. Regardless, we sure hope that they take his designs into consideration.
