Gunther Werks’ One-Off Porsche 911 “Bubblegum” is Barbie’s Dream Sports Car

Nowadays, a handful of Porsche specialists are working on old and new 911s for the brand’s enthusiasts and Gunther Werks is probably one of the best ones out there. Last year, it revealed a restomod project involving Porsche’s first air-cooled 911 (993), dubbed the Project Tornado, a carbon-bodied classic 911 with up to 700 hp, receiving overall raving critics. But recently, the Californian tuner made its debut in the European market with a similar Porsche 993 — bright pink this time.

Named the “Bubblegum,” Gunther Werks revealed its most recent project, its first right-hand drive vehicle ever, at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. Interestingly, this restored classic is a one-off for a special British customer, featuring a three-stage pink pearlescent metallic paint job with an exposed carbon fiber center stripe. Of course, the color might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but we do feel it has its charm.

That said, the tuner kept its spec sheet a secret. But given it’s based on the Project Tornado, they should share a few common traits and as such, it’s fairly safe to assume the 993 Bubblegum is fitted with the same force-fed 4.0-liter flat-six engine, tuned by Rothsport Racing to produce 600 hp and up to 700 hp on track mode, all transferred to the rear axle through a six-speed manual transmission.

Design-wise, the pink classic receives carbon fiber bodywork, shaving 500 lbs over the standard 993. It also has a body kit comprising a hood scoop, ram air intakes, diffusers, and exhaust pipes sticking out from the mesh panel. Also, we’re a fan of the LEDs embedded into the original headlights.

Inside, not much has changed from the base car, but you’ll find a lot of black Alcantara with pink stitching. The bucket seats are also carbon fiber, and we like how the 993’s instrument panel was retained, with a contrasting white rev counter in the middle.

While it’s a shame Gunther Werks only made one Bubblegum for one exclusive customer, it’s good to know the tuner can build your dream classic exactly the way you want it — and you don’t even have to live in the US to buy one! à
