Cadillac Reveals Its First Electric Vehicle, Lyriq

The American automaker Cadilac has finally revealed its first electric vehicle, the Lyriq, after months of teasing.

The Lyriq is the brand’s first step towards its electric dawn. It’s also another benchmark towards the new brands’ name generation as the current alphanumeric nomenclature is apparently being replaced by ‘iq’ monikers instead of CT and XT.

The new Lyriq finds its place in the elegantly styled luxury SUV segment, either in single-motor rear-wheel-drive or dual-motor all-wheel-drive variants. Furthermore, the manufacturer claims that the Lyriq houses the most advanced GM modular electric platform, using the company’s Ultium long-range batteries, providing a range of up to 300 miles when fully charged.

Features

The ‘Standard’ rear-wheel-drive variant is equipped with an electric motor placed on the rear axle, while the all-wheel-drive ‘Performance’ variant adds an electric motor on the front axle. Unfortunately, the actual power output has not been officially disclosed yet, but knowing the luxury brand’s dedication, we can be sure of a well-throttled pace.

Cadillac’s parent company, General Motors, will be introducing its new EV battery technology named ‘Ultium’ to power up the Lyriq. The innovative technology reportedly enables the production of high-performance batteries with a size range of 50 kWh to 200 kWh.

The Lyriq will come with a 100 kWh battery capacity, which is estimated to deliver a 300-mile range at full charge. Standard DC 150 kWh fast charging will be supported along with an AC level 2 home charging ability, too. Furthermore, placing the batteries closer to the ground offers a lower center of gravity, along with a 50/50 weight distribution, maximizing stability.

With that being said, some technical details have been kept secret by GM’s Design Dome and have yet to be disclosed.

Interior and design

Cadillac’s design direction is predicated on the artistic integration of technology with such precision that the end result is a work of art. The Lyriq showcases the newly designed exquisite ‘Grille,’ slim vertical headlights in the front, and angular LED integrated taillights.

The vehicle features a surprising four-passenger design, with the center console splitting the front and rear seats. A 33-inch curved OLED display, placed behind the steering wheel, stretches across the whole dashboard. It provides all the details concerning battery level, augmented reality display, parking assistance, and all other key features. Rear passengers aren’t forgotten since an independent touchscreen displays all infotainment needed. Other notable features include best-in-class noise cancellation, a 19-speaker stereo system, and wireless phone charging.

Cadillac surely likes to play it safe, and the Lyriq embodies the well-established Cadillac way. The manufacturer kept doing what it does best and didn’t try to just one-up its competitors. Instead, it waited patiently, perfecting the Lyriq’s design until it was perfect.

‘The first impression is the last impression,’ and Cadillac, as usual, focused on providing quality and purity over quantity and reproduction.

Compromise is not an option!!
