The all-new BMW X3 and X4 feature a more aggressive front fascia with larger kidney grilles, a reworked interior, and refreshed engines.
BMW facelifted the X3 and X4 for all global markets, along with the special M packages. Both models have received noticeable exterior and interior changes, a new infotainment system, driver’s assistance features, and, most significantly, 48-volt mild-hybrid technology in the 6-cylinder variants.
The 2022 X3 will be offered in 3 variants—X3 sDrive30i, X3 xDrive30i, and M-sport X3 M40i—while the X4 will only have two—X4 xDrive30i and M-sport X4 M40i. Both will come with two engine options, a 2.0-liter inline-four and a 3.0-liter inline-six used in the M-sport X3 M40i and X4 M40i.
The 2.0-liter inline-four delivers 248 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque, good enough to go from 0 to 60 mph in 6.0 seconds and reach a top speed of 130 mph. Meanwhile, the 3.0-liter inline-6 in the M models produces a much healthier 382 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque output, dropping the 0-60 mph time to 4.4 seconds. M variants will reach a top of 130 mph or 155 mph, depending on the set of tires selected.
Furthermore, a 48-volt mild-hybrid system comes standard with the 6-cylinder engine models, enabling sharper power delivery under acceleration while the energy used is charged back while braking. In addition, all engine variants are paired with an 8-speed Sport Steptronic transmission, reducing fuel consumption and harmful emissions.
On the outside, the 2022 X3 features a redesigned kidney grille, which is slightly larger than the previous model. The headlights are redesigned, too, now being 0.4 inches thinner. BMW also placed vertical air intakes under the headlights, forming a triangular design, perfectly complementing the new front bumper. Furthermore, satin aluminum finished window panes, and roof rails add to the already striking look. The new X3 is offered in nine color options, with Metallic Brooklyn Grey Tanzanite Blue II metallic making its official debut.
The M-specific variant carries a few distinctive exterior features, like BMW’s iconic M grille with gloss black double bars finished and an M logo. Besides, the exterior mirrors are now aerodynamically optimized and finished in a high gloss black color.
Meanwhile, the updated X4 also features a larger front kidney grille, slimmer headlights, and a redesigned bumper. It comes in 10 paint options, with the new metallic finish Piermont Red being exclusive to the model.
The X4 M model carries similar characteristics as the X3 M40i, including the M grille and the same aerodynamic mirrors.
BMW also announced pricing details for the facelifted X3 and X4. The standard X3 sDrive30i will cost you $43,700, whereas the all-wheel-drive variant will set you back an extra $3,000. Meanwhile, the standard X4 variant starts at $52,775, the six-cylinder model begins at $58,775 for the X3 M40i and $63,395 for the X4 M40i.
The facelifted BMW X3 and X4 should arrive at dealerships by this fall.
