All-New Suzuki Swift to Arrive in 2022

According to the latest reports, Suzuki might unveil the next-gen 2022 Swift next year, expected to arrive with mild-hybrid powertrains and evolutionary styling.

Japanese publication Best Car Web reported that the fourth-gen Swift would be built on a new platform, resulting in reduced curb weight. However, it is unclear whether Suzuki will completely redesign the chassis or modify the current one.

Furthermore, the Japanese magazine claims that the 2022 Swift will feature the same 1.2-liter 4-cylinder from the current model. Currently, Suzuki pairs the engine with a small 48V electric motor for increased efficiency.

Meanwhile, enthusiasts will be happy to hear that the Swift Sport variant will also be back for the next generation. The current model packs 138 hp and 169 lb-ft of torque, but we expect a sizeable upgrade here. The Swift Sport should hit dealerships in 2023.

Suzuki Swift

As per the sources, Suzuki won’t make a lot of styling changes to the 2022 Swift. However, you can still expect some curves and soft edges, giving the hatchback a more premium look.

Last year, Suzuki introduced the facelifted 2021 Swift in Europe that came with a host of upgrades, including some cosmetic tweaks, a new engine, and new safety features.

About the Suzuki Swift

The Suzuki Swift is a subcompact car produced by the Japanese automobile manufacturer Suzuki. The first-gen Swift arrived in the US in 1983 and was also sold as the Geo Metro. Suzuki launched two further generations of the model in North America.

However, the modern European version was unveiled at the Paris Motor Show in September 2004. It was launched in 2005, and it received an overwhelming response in most markets, with sales figures exceeding Suzuki’s expectations.

The second generation of Suzuki Swift arrived in August 2010. It received several visual updates, and its wheelbase was 50mm longer. In 2013, Suzuki launched the facelift version with some cosmetic changes, including a new front bumper, daytime running lights, fog lamps, and 16-inch alloy wheels.

The third-gen Swift was unveiled in December 2016 and was built on Suzuki’s HEARTECT platform. This was the same lightweight platform the company used to develop hatchbacks like the Ignis and Baleno. In May 2020, Suzuki launched the facelift version for the Japanese and European markets.
