Land Rover officially launched the 5th generation 2022 Range Rover with a sleek style and a technological overhaul underneath!
Since its inception 50 years ago, the Range Rover has been an absolute pioneer in balancing off-roading and hauling executives with pure elegance and sophistication in the city streets. It started as a master of trails in its first-gen and slowly grew more contemporary with every subsequent generation. In its new avatar, Land Rover embraced the simplicity of all its predecessors and worked its magic under the skin of the vehicle.
Unlike the flamboyant and showy designs common on cars these days, the British marquee instead opted for a minimalist and elegant approach that is timeless yet new age. Its front fascia is adorned by the same signature slotted grille and headlights with modern touches and technology. Meanwhile, the body-colored unidirectional radiator grille neatly integrates the car’s safety sensors and fog lamps.
The rest of the 2022 Range Rover features a neatly sculpted body with minimal panel gaps, giving the illusion that it is manufactured using a monocoque shell! For instance, the Range Rover is expressed by sleek matte panels that slowly converge into a boattail section at the rear. It is further complemented by 23-inch alloy wheels accompanied by a contrasting dual-tone finish on the front fender. Things are simple yet subtle at the rear, courtesy of a black insert with ‘Range Rover’ lettering and camouflaged vertical panels that double up as tail lights!
Taking its luxury and off-road game a step further, Land Rover mated the body to an all-new MLA-flex (Flexible Modular Longitudinal Architecture), suitable for off-the-beat and on-road applications. The modern platform supports the advanced Dynamic Response Pro system along with a pre-emptive suspension that senses road characteristics using GPS and in-built hardware to tackle corners and bumps with unparalleled comfort thanks to the electronically adjustable air suspension. Beyond this, the Rover is equipped with four-wheel steering that improves the turning radius down to an impressive 36 ft!
With the exceptional design and chassis on hand, the 2022 Range Rover is available with two different powertrains. The SE trim packs a 3.0-liter turbocharged i6 engine that generates 395 hp and 406 lb-ft of torque, while other variants receive a playful 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 engine that produces an impressive 523 hp and 553 lb-ft. Beginning next year, the marquee will equip the 3.0-liter engine with a 38.4 kWh Li-ion battery pack and a 140 hp electric motor, adequate for up to 62 miles of electric-only range. Of course, all engines are coupled with an 8-speed ZF auto transmission.
Aside from all the horsepower and dirt trails, the cabin of the Rover is uber-luxurious. The centerpiece of the dashboard is a curved 13.7-inch high-res Pivi Pro infotainment system. It controls the Terrain Response system, and it offers Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, Alexa, and SiriusXM compatibility.
Furthermore, the 2022 Range Rover gets a 1,600 W Meridian Sound System with ANC (Active Noise Cancellation) to shut out external noise and provide a theatrical experience. Other conveniences and safety systems include the digital driver’s cockpit, optional HUD (Heads up display), heated and ventilated seats with leather or Ultrafabrics upholstery, wireless charging, etc. Occupants at the back can also stream content using the intuitive 11.9-inch touchscreens. Additionally, the SUV will be available as a four-seater, five-seater, or seven-seater.
In terms of pricing, the entry-level SE trim starts at $105,350, while upper variants can go up to $120,050 and an eye-opening $165,000 for the First Edition long-wheelbase (triple seating) version.
