How rare is too rare? This custom Pagani Huayra had everything a hypercar fan could want—but still failed to sell at auction.
It’s not every day that a Pagani Huayra hits the auction block, let alone one as unique as this. But when this one-of-a-kind 2014 Huayra went up for sale on Bring A Trailer, something unexpected happened—it didn’t sell. Despite a $2.3 million bid, the car failed to meet its reserve price, leaving many wondering what went wrong.
The Huayra has been a symbol of exclusivity and craftsmanship since it was introduced in 2011. Designed as the successor to the legendary Zonda, it was built to compete with hypercars like the Bugatti Veyron, Porsche Carrera GT, and Ferrari Enzo. Pagani made sure the Huayra stood out, equipping it with active aerodynamics that adjust on the go and constructing its body from carbon-titanium for extreme strength and safety. Only 100 units were ever made, making it a rare find.
This particular Huayra, known as the Oceano Pacifico, is even more special. Custom-built for a California buyer, it features a Pacific Ocean-inspired design. The Blu Francia Metallic paint covers the fenders, doors, and quarter panels, while Bianco Fabriano accents give it an extra touch of elegance. The Blu Tricolore carbon fiber on the nose, roof, and decklid adds to the car’s one-of-a-kind aesthetic. Even the side mirrors have tricolore accents, showing just how much attention to detail went into this build.
The hypercar packed some serious performance upgrades too. Shortly after delivery, it was sent back to Pagani to receive the Tempesta package, which brought aerodynamic and weight-saving enhancements. This included a titanium exhaust system, Öhlins coilovers, a revised front splitter, underbody panels, and a rear diffuser. It also sits on center-lock alloy wheels, painted blue with white rims, and wrapped in Pirelli P Zero tires. The braking system consists of Brembo carbon-ceramic discs with six-piston calipers up front and four in the rear.
Under the hood, the handcrafted twin-turbo 6.0L V-12 from Mercedes-AMG is the heart of this beast. Producing 730 horsepower and 738 lb-ft of torque, the Huayra rockets from 0-60 mph in just 2.8 seconds and reaches a top speed of 238 mph. The Xtrac seven-speed automated manual transaxle with a single clutch ensures lightning-fast shifts.
With such an exclusive design, powerful performance, and only 2,000 miles on the odometer, you’d expect it to get snapped up quickly. But even after a $2,333,333 bid, it didn’t meet the seller’s reserve price. Given how rare these cars are, it’s surprising that a buyer wasn’t willing to meet the expected number. Maybe the seller was holding out for a bigger payday, or maybe the right buyer just hasn’t come along yet.
Either way, this Pagani Huayra Oceano Pacifico remains available—for now. It might not be long before another deep-pocketed collector steps up with an offer that seals the deal.
