Genesis released the pricing for its all-new flagship sedan, the 2023 G90, and it starts higher than the Lexus LS, Audi A8, and even the BMW 7-Series!
Notably, the 2023 G90 costs $13,450 more than the outgoing 2022 model, starting at $89,495. Still, the sedan promises to be a value-for-money proposition, with a powerful entry-level engine offering and generous equipment levels.
Claudia Marquez, chief operating officer of Genesis Motor North America, claims, “With its advanced technologies, leading safety features, and top-class comfort amenities, G90 puts customers at the center of a new refined driving experience.”
The G90 will be available in two trim levels — the $89,495 3.5T AWD trim and the 3.5T E-SC AWD, costing $99,795. Unlike its competition, the 2023 G90 has many standard features, including 20-inch alloy wheels, panoramic sunroof, heated and cooled front seats, Bang & Olufsen audio system, and driver aid systems.
Meanwhile, E-SC adds plus multi-chamber air suspension, rear-wheel steering, 21-inch alloy wheels, and ventilated power rear seats with a massage function. However, customers will still need to pay $575 for metallic and pearl paint and $1,500 for a matte paint finish.
As for powertrains, the entry-level 3.5T AWD trim features a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V-6 engine producing 375 hp and 391 lb-ft of torque. Meanwhile, the costlier 3.5T E-SC AWD trim adds a 48-volt mild-hybrid system and an electric supercharger to the mix. As a result, the power unit now produces 409 hp and 405 lb-ft of torque. The more powerful option should also be more responsive since the mild-hybrid setup, and electric supercharger will effectively eliminate the turbo lag. Both engines come with a standard 8-speed auto.
Inside, the 2023 G90 comes with all the tech goodies you’d expect from a luxury sedan, including a dual-screen infotainment+driver’s display combo. The materials are also top-notch — Genesis used high-quality leather on the dashboard and seats, along with glass and aluminum on the center console. The rear seats are even more impressive, as you’d expect, featuring a reclining function, thoughtful storage spaces, and large screens.
Besides, the G90 debuts with a feature known as the Mood Curator, which literally does what it says. Namely, it plays with the ambient lighting, sound system, fragrance system, massage seats, and electric curtains to achieve the best combination to please you. There are four inbuilt mood modes, but customers can customize them as they like for a personalized experience.
The 2023 G90 shows what Hyundai, Genesis’ parent company, is capable of in terms of technology and design. But are the upgrades enough to justify the price? With luxury sedans going into the abyss, the G90 probably won’t be very successful, but nonetheless, it shows that Hyundai is serious about competing with the big boys!
Your headline that the Genesis G90 starts higher than its rivals is very deceptive. Yes, stripped models of Genesis rivals are available at lower cost than the base G90 which is fully equipped with no options other than matte paint. When equally equipped, Lexus LS, Audi A8, BMW 7-Series and Mercedes S-Series cost far more than the G90, and even then they don’t match all the features that are standard on the G90.
True.
And that is why the title is “2023 Genesis G90 Starts Higher than its Rivals” and not “2023 Genesis G90 Costs More than its Rivals No Matter the Equipment Package Selected”…
Nobody said the Genesis G90 was more expensive than its rivals across all trims and variants… We said that the Base model starts higher than its competitors…
And well, that’s a fact. ♂️
