Rumors: BMW M4 CSL to Arrive in 2023 with 540 HP but No Manual Option

Rumors have it that the upcoming BMW M4 CSL would be the most hardcore variant to date, although it won’t be available with a manual transmission.

Since September 2020, insider ‘ynguldyn’ has been steadily revealing details about the upcoming G82 M4 CSL. According to the thread, the G82 will be part of a limited production run from July 2022 to February 2023, falling in line with the BMW Motorsport division’s 50th ‘MAnniversary’ celebration. The M4 CSL will be introduced next year along with limited-edition variants of other models.

The headlining features of the M4 include a 540 hp powertrain and an automatic transmission—no stick shift in sight! The current-gen M4 packs a 3.0-liter twin-turbo six-cylinder producing 473 hp in its base form and 504 hp in the Competition version. Hence, the M4 CSL would be significantly more powerful, making it one of the quickest ‘M’ cars in years. Not bad, but still, a manual transmission would have been a pretty neat addition. Anyway…

In pursuit of weight savings, the CSL will also be rear-wheel drive instead of the current models featuring Mercedes’ xDrive all-wheel-drive system. Other features include brand new 19’ or 20’ wheels with the option to choose between sport tires and track tires, standard M bucket seats or optional racing bucket seats, a plethora of carbon fiber elements, and an Alcantara steering wheel. Additionally, all-new M-exclusive headlights will be available to customers.

It doesn’t stop there, though. There are also rumors floating around regarding a new G87 M2 with manual (yes!) and automatic transmission options. The drivetrain and suspension setup should be similar to the M4, except for M2-specific 19′ and 20′ wheels. The M3 CS is also on the radar for a launch between 2023 and 2024. The exact power figures haven’t been confirmed yet, although it is said to feature M bucket seats, a Steptronic transmission, additional carbon fiber trims, and more.

Irrespective of whether the rumors hold true or not, beemer fans certainly have their plates filled for the next couple of months!
