HKS Toyota GR 86 supercharger

HKS Announces a Supercharger Kit for the 2022 Toyota GR 86

The reputable Japanese aftermarket firm HKS prepared a host of upgrades for the 2022 Toyota GR 86, including a supercharger—yep, you heard that right!

If you follow the JDM aftermarket scene, HKS is not a name to be taken lightly, and rightfully so. In a post showcasing their latest treatment of Toyota’s shiny new offering, the 2022 GR 86, the Japanese tuner gives us a look at what’s in store to kick things up a notch.

Designing the GR 86 as an affordable and lightweight sports car, Toyota has opted for a naturally aspirated 2.4-liter engine capable of producing a decent 228 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque. Of course, the GR 86 is no Supra—but it still produces 23 ponies and 28 lb-ft more than the outgoing version and manages a 0-60 mph time in 6.1 seconds.

HKS’ Supercharger kit will then give the GR 86 a significant boost in performance. Tuners have always been fond of the 86, and this announcement coming before the car has even hit the market just goes to show that the hype is very real.

No official word on the performance is available at the moment, but given that the GT2 supercharger system took the older GT 86 to 298 horsepower and 233 lb-ft of torque, it would be fair to say that HKS is aiming to increase that number. And worth mentioning, the new GR 86’s peak torque is delivered in the relatively low RPM band, 3,700 rpm, as announced by Toyota, and we can only imagine what tuners will do from there.

Along with a supercharger, HKS also improved the GR 86 with a Hi-Power Spec L II exhaust system, HKS Hipermax S suspensions, and a set of Advan GT wheels wrapped in Advan Neova tires from Yokohama.

There is more, however.

A full body kit is also featured on the demo car, covered in custom decals and sporting a front lip spoiler, side skirts, canards, a rear under spoiler, a ducktail spoiler, and a full GT wing.

One more time, HKS shows how an already good car can always be given even more edge with a balanced set of mods.

As to where and when these mods will be made available, or even if they will ever be released in the US, we just don’t know yet. But be sure that we’ll keep our eyes peeled and let you know if we hear anything! 🤞
