2022 Tacoma TRD Pro is Toyota’s New Off-Road King in the Lineup

The Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro receives an even more capable suspension for MY22, providing a higher lift, and an all-new Electric Lime Metallic color.

Some wonderful news for all you off-road enthusiasts out there! Your favorite Tacoma trim has been revised, and its “performance goes up a notch” for the 2022 MY. Namely, Toyota has announced upgrades for the Tacoma TRD Pro, which offers greater off-road capability and modest cosmetic tweaks.

The biggest improvement to the 2022 Tacoma TRD Pro is a revised suspension setup that gives significant lift at both axles. Although it retains the TRD-tuned Fox internal bypass shocks, the revision results in a raised ground height of 1.5 inches in the front, up 0.5 inches from the previous edition, and 0.5 inches in the rear. This provides riders with much-improved trail performance and obstacle clearance due to the 36.4-degree approach angle, 24.7-degree departure angle, and 26.6-degree breakover angle.

In comparison, the earlier version had approach/departure/breakover angles of 35/19.1/23.9 degrees. Furthermore, the front lift is backed by TRD-engineered upper control arms made from forged aluminum, which Toyota says “allow the FOX shocks to make use of the additional rebound stroke afforded by the lift by adjusting the angle of the ball-joint mount.”

Mechanical changes aside, the pickup truck receives some minor cosmetic upgrades as well. As you must have noticed, a new refreshing paint scheme called “Electric Lime Metallic” makes its debut as a TRD Pro-exclusive color. Its addition takes Tacoma’s color options to four, joined by Super White, Magnetic Gray Metallic, and Midnight Black Metallic.

Elsewhere, you’ll find a heritage-inspired front grille with body-color inserts, unique LED headlights and foglights, and an aluminum front skid plate for better trail protection. In addition, bigger 16-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels shod in Goodyear Wrangler Territory all-terrain tires enable a hassle-free ride on all track conditions. Moreover, there’s a bolder TRD Pro stamp on the bedside, new graphics on the hood, and a black Tacoma emblem that replaces the TRD Pro badge on the front door.

The 2022 TRD Pro, like all Tacoma models, comes with a plethora of features. It has an 8-inch infotainment display with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Amazon Alexa support, a 4.2-inch multi-info driver’s display, black leather-trimmed heated front seats, a power moonroof, a surround-view camera, a 10-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, and a JBL Premium sound system (exclusive for AMT models).

The pickup keeps its 3.5-liter V6 engine producing 278hp and 360Nm (265lb-ft) of torque. Power goes to both axles via a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission.

The 2022 Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro will go on sale this fall. Pricing has not yet been released, although it is expected to be higher than the previous model’s $45,420 price tag.
