The Canoo Lifestyle minivan will start at $34,750 without any subsidies, offering a 250-mile range and a 300 hp electric drivetrain.
It’s been two years since the Los Angeles-based EV startup Canoo unveiled its first EV, and now the company has finally released its official pricing details. The Canoo Lifestyle is a futuristic electric minivan starting at $34,750 and goes up to $49,950 for the top-tier model. It will be available in three variants: Base, Delivery, and Premium variants. Out of the three, the Delivery will be the least expensive since it will aim commercial use. In addition, there will also be a high-end, muscular-looking Adventure trim, but there’s no word on its pricing yet.
Canoo has also begun reservations for two other upcoming models: a pick-up truck and a multi-purpose delivery vehicle (MPDV). Interested buyers in the US can book one of the three vehicles by putting down a $100 deposit. The lifestyle minivan will enter production this year, with first deliveries set to begin in 2022. However, those making reservations for the pickup or MPDV would have to wait until 2023.
All three vehicles are based on Canoo’s proprietary skateboard platform, which provides a highly adaptable electric architecture for various vehicles and body styles. The Lifestyle packs 300hp and 450Nm (332lb-ft) of torque and has a claimed driving range of 250 miles (400 km). Meanwhile, the practical and utility-based pickup truck will pack quite a punch at 500hp and 745Nm (550lb-ft) of peak torque, with a range of up to 200 miles (322kms) on a single charge. We don’t have pricing for the pickup yet, but the MPDV will cost $33,000, according to the company.
Tony Aquila, Canoo’s new investor-turned-CEO, has discontinued the brand’s defining subscription-based sales approach, meaning its products will now be sold by conventional selling strategies. He also announced the termination of the partnership with Hyundai, effectively putting an end to developing an EV based on Canoo’s electric platform. With Hyundai gone, there’s a vacancy for a contract manufacturer for Canoo’s vehicles. However, the company has made no announcement about who will fill that spot.
