Mercedes-Benz EQB is a Compact All-Electric Seven-Seater SUV

Mercedes revealed its newest addition to the EV lineup in the form of the EQB, modeled after the internal combustion GLB.

The compact seven-seater vehicle joins the electric EQS and the smaller EQA in Mercedes’s EV lineup. Debuting at the 2021 Shanghai Auto Show, the EQB will be released first in China and Europe, with the seven-seater hitting the US markets sometime in early 2022.

On the outside, Mercedes has included the signature EQ-brand black panel as an alternative to the traditional grille design. Furthermore, a fiber-optic light strip connects the daylight running lamp and LED headlights, similar to the EQS. 20-inch wheels in different colors are also available.

An important thing about the EQB is that it measures only 184.4-inches long (4,684 mm), shorter than the Mustang Mach-E’s 186-inch length. The impressive stuff here is that Mercedes was able to sneak a third seating row in the cargo area. A boxy design definitely pays off when it comes to practicality and space.

The model sold in China will come with three rows of seats as standard, accommodating seven people and providing 465-1,629 liters of space. Other countries will get the five-seater option with 495-1,710 liters of cargo space. Moreover, the second-row seats come with an optional longitudinal adjustment lever that can add up to 190 liters of space. The measurements and cargo space figures are almost identical to the GLB.

EQB’s interior is also similar to the GLB except for some trims with different upholstery colors. Mercedes’ flagship MBUX dual-screen infotainment system with navigation and electric intelligence comes standard. Like other Mercedes EVs, the MBUX software can calculate routes based on charging stations, weather, and topography.

The EQB will come with both front- and -all-wheel drive systems using a battery capacity of 66.5kWh in Europe. Although the power output for the base model is not known, some models will cross the 269 HP mark. Besides, Mercedes said an AMG line trim offering 288 HP would hit the Chinese market.

A long-range variant is in the works, too, although we don’t have the specific information on it now. Instead, Mercedes said that the EQB 350 4MATIC would provide 297 miles of range on the NEDC cycle and 260 miles on the WLTP tests.

Mercedes-Benz will release more information on the EQB electric crossover at a later date. Prices are still unknown at the moment.
