The Mercedes-Benz EQS provides the longest range at 478 miles and arguably the best interior of any electric vehicle to date.
It has been two years since Mercedes revealed the Vision EQS concept in Geneva, and now we finally get to see the production-spec EQS luxury electric sedan. Built on the dedicated Electric Vehicle Architecture platform, the EQS will be the first electric vehicle from Mercedes to hit the US market, rivaling the Tesla Model S, Porsche Taycan, and the Audi e-tron GT.
The EQS Has the Best Drag Coefficient of Any Production Vehicle
The Mercedes-Benz EQS comes with a long body and a sleek, coupe-like structure featuring frameless doors and panels that for a clean design. With flush door handles and front hood overlapping fenders, the sedan exhibits a very clean design. Moreover, the light bar connecting the headlights, along with the daytime running lamps, gives it a futuristic vibe. The curvy flow design has enabled Mercedes engineers to achieve an incredible 0.20 drag coefficient, making the EQS the most aerodynamic production car in history.

EQS-ellent Performance and Range
Mercedes has also announced that the EQS will have many drivetrain options with one or more electric motors powering them, although the sedan will only be available with two at launch. The lineup starts with the lower-end EQS 450+ with a single motor on the rear axle, delivering 329 HP. The entry-level model can reach 60mph in 5.5 seconds and a 130mph top speed.
Meanwhile, the EQS 580 4MATIC dual-motor variant produces a combined 516 HP. It can reach 60 mph in 4.1 seconds, although the top speed is again limited at 130 mph. Mercedes has also given hints on an AMG-performance variant t, coming out with more power and other upgrades. We certainly can’t wait for that one.

According to WLTP estimates, the EQS can last up to 478 miles on a single charge for the model with the high-capacity 107.8 kWh battery pack and RWD drivetrain. The battery pack also supports 200-kW charging, giving it 186-miles of range in only 15 minutes of charging. Meanwhile, charging using a regular 240V wall box from 10% to 100% takes 11.25 hours.
Sophisticated Driver-Aiding Safety Systems
The EQS has some of the most sophisticated driver aids, including adaptive cruise control, which uses map data to anticipate corners and intersections and reduce speed accordingly. There is also a lane-keeping assist onboard, along with steering, acceleration, parking, and blind-spot assist. A rear-wheel steering system is also present, reducing the turning circle and aiding with stability at higher speeds.
Uber-Luxurious and Hi-Tech Interior
However, perhaps the most impressive thing about the EQS is the cabin. Currently, there is no other EV on offer that packs so much tech and luxury, and it’s not even close.
The biggest tech piece is the new curved 55-inch touchscreen called the MBUX Hyperscreen, covering the whole dashboard. It actually consists of three screens; a 17.7-inch infotainment display combines with a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster and a 12.3-inch front passenger screen to form the biggest display in any production vehicle.

However, the Hyperscreen is only available as an optional extra. The EQS 450+ comes standard with a 12.8-inch OLED portrait display with optional Hyperscreen selection, while the EQS 580 4MATIC comes standard with a huge screen. The vehicle also has an optional augmented reality heads-up display that projects useful information and navigation onto the windshield on the driver side.
The 2022 Mercedes-Benz EQS will arrive in dealerships later this year, and reports suggest the pricing could be slightly higher than the S-Class. A fully upgraded EQS could easily hit $200,000, if not more. Still, that’s a small price to pay for perhaps the most advanced vehicle on sale today.
