Škoda recently showcased its new Kushaq SUV, derived from the Vision IN concept and specifically designed for the Indian market.
Škoda tends to follow a timeless design language, and the Kushaq is no exception. The SUV also stays true to the Vision IN concept as almost all the key elements were kept quite similar. At the front end, the Kushaq sports a massive grille and dual-headlights featuring what the automaker calls the ‘Škoda Crystal lighting’—a nod to its heritage.
According to Škoda, this SUV will be offered in three trims: Active, Ambient, and Style. The baseline Škoda Kushaq features 16-inch steel wheels with Goodyear tires as standard, while the other two variants will come with bigger 16- and 17-inch alloy wheels, respectively. Unsurprisingly, disc brakes are only available at the front, while the rear is equipped with drum brakes.
The Kushaq’s cabin looks relatively modern, thanks to the two-spoke multifunctional steering wheel, 10-inch touchscreen display supporting Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, touchpad-operated climate control system, and leather upholstery. Unfortunately, the glossy dashboard appears to be made of lower quality plastic, probably due to cost-cutting measures. Overall, the interior doesn’t disappoint but still offers room for improvement.
The Škoda Kushaq is offered with two engine variants, both developed in India, a first for the brand. The base variant is equipped with a 115 horsepower, 129 lb-ft of torque 1.0-liter three-cylinder TSI engine coupled with a 6-speed manual transmission. The top variants are powered by the bigger 1.5-liter four-cylinder TSI engine putting out 150 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque.
Unfortunately, the automaker hasn’t revealed any information related to the pricing yet, but it is expected to cost less than the Hyundai Creta.
