Lucid Gravity Sketches Leak, Show a Luxury Electric SUV

The Lucid Gravity electric SUV intends to stomp on the Tesla Model X with an ultra-luxurious interior, performance, and even more advanced battery tech.

The Gravity will be the startup’s second offering after the Air. Lucid released the initial photographs of the Project Gravity back in September last year.

Fortunately, somebody on the Lucid forum chose to shower light and disclose the patent registry drawings. We can now visualize the electric SUV that should compete with the Tesla Model X a little better.

The drawings show details that had slipped under the radar because the first concept photographs purposefully obscured it. Now, the ceiling appears to have panoramic double glass, which will add more luminance and increase the sense of room in the cabin.

Moving to the back of the car, it seems longer than what the renders have shown. Besides, the rear glass panel also appears to be wider, making way for additional cargo space.

For the rest, we also know that the Lucid Gravity retains some features from the Air, such as the horizontally-arranged extended headlamps and the illumination strip that connects the tail lamps.

The Gravity SUV will sit on the Lucid Electric Advanced Platform, the same as the Air sedan. The platform allows for shorter overhangs and a more compact drivetrain. As a result, Lucid can maximize the cabin space and provide the highest possible comfort.

The Lucid Gravity can carry up to seven people. As per initial findings, Lucid Motors promises that Gravity will be the most versatile SUV globally, but no other information is available at the moment.

Other features are still unknown at this time. However, if we use the Lucid Air as a benchmark, we can talk about a very intriguing luxury EV with a base option of 480 HP. With the Dream Edition, the numbers go all the way up to 1080 HP and 500 miles range.

The company will start taking orders for the Gravity later this year, and we can expect the vehicle to hit the streets in 2023.

It is worth mentioning that Lucid delayed the Air sedan’s delivery to the second half of the year due to the coronavirus pandemic. However, even without a single delivery, the company is valued at $24 billion.

Regardless, it will be interesting to see how Lucid continues to compete in the increasingly crowded EV sector. The brand sees itself as a Mercedes-Benz rival rather than a Tesla killer, but still, it’s the latter that is more popular as an EV option right now. Exciting times are ahead of us, that’s for sure.
