Polestar presented the Re:Move, a concept it defines as an electric urban sled for last-mile delivery.
Personal transportation, last-mile delivery, and electric mobility are expected to gain momentum in the coming years. The current pandemic has greatly boosted this market niche, and it still has a long way to go. Big manufacturers of both the automotive and the motorcycle sector know the potential that remains to be exploited. The latest firm to join this trend is Polestar with its Re:Move.
Polestar has a close relationship with the electric motorcycle manufacturer CAKE, which supplied the know-how that Polestar did not have for this project. Meanwhile, the design is the work of Konstantin Grcic in collaboration with Hydro and Polestar’s UK R&D facility.
What we know so far is that the Re:Move would be constructed from fully recyclable aluminum with low carbon content. Unfortunately, there is still no available technical specification about the Polestar Re:Move at the moment. Its makers have only clarified that this electric urban sled will be compact and fast enough for most bike lanes, while also being strong enough to support a load of up to 606 lb.
According to Polestar, the Re:Move arose from the need for a more environmentally friendly means of shipping and distributing goods. Its long wheelbase will enable it to deliver various types of shipments over short distances.
Indeed it is precisely the market segment Polestar wants to dominate with the Re:Move. However, at the moment, it is only a digital model that has not yet become a physical model. Polestar’s CEO Thomas Ingenlath says that the design of the electric vehicle is only the first step. The firm needs to carefully review the entire supply chain and materials used to design the Re:Move in order to get it prepared for actual production.
The Re:Move was first presented by the partners at the SXSW (South by South West) Conference and Festival on March 17th, while the working version is expected later in the fall of this year.
More details to come.
