As per recent rumors, a Land Cruiser-based Lexus LX luxury SUV will sport a V8 to be on top of Toyota’s V6-powered model.
For the past 60 years, the Toyota Land Cruiser has been one of the best and most popular off-road SUVs to date. It went from being an ordinary utility vehicle to a luxury SUV. Recently, the company announced the Land Cruiser would be discontinued in the US this year as vehicle sales hit an all-time low. Other markets will get the new Land Cruiser 300 series, while Lexus will probably continue producing a Land Cruiser-based flagship SUV called the LX.
There are rumors of the Lexus LX differentiating from the Land Cruiser in multiple departments while retaining the look and basic shape of the iconic SUV. The next Lexus LX will get different styling, the signature Lexus grille in the front, a new hood, fenders, and quarter panels to give a unique look to the vehicle. The Land Cruiser 300 series, on the other hand, will resemble its predecessors in any way possible.
Recently, Toyota announced that the new Land Cruiser 300 series will ditch the powerful V8 engine for a 3.5L Turbo V6 along with a 10-speed automatic gearbox. A hybrid option will be available for customers, but it will not be the standard hybrid drivetrain seen in other Toyota vehicles as the SUV needs more power. The Lexus LX, however, will have the 5.7L V8 pumping out 380 horsepower, suitable for a flagship luxury SUV. Other specifications and details will be released soon, and we wait to see what makes the V8-clad Lexus LX different than the Land Cruiser 300 series.
Another speculated topic is the possibility of Toyota’s racing division, Gazoo Racing, will produce a faster and sportier version of the Land Cruiser 300. Looking at recent reveals and releases, if the GR Land Cruiser becomes a reality, the vehicle will gain aero body bits, along with better performance like the rest of the GR family.
Toyota will reveal the Land Cruiser by the end of 2021, but the Lexus LX will take more time, although the company will develop the vehicle side by side with the Land Cruiser.
