Lucid Motors Completes its AMP-1 Plant in Arizona

Lucid Motors has finished constructing its Advanced Manufacturing Plant-1.

Founded in 2007, the company’s first model, the “Air” was first revealed in 2016. Now, with the completion of its brand-new factory in Casa Grande, Arizona, the company will be able to manufacture 30,000 units annually. This number is just an initial figure with an estimated increase expected in the future. The 590-acre site will serve North America first and the global market a little later.

The sad news, though, is that the Air’s production won’t start until spring of 2021. Even though the factory is complete, the equipment required for production isn’t yet available. And even if it was, the EV manufacturer still needs more time to develop its final production model.

“ As part of the factory’s commissioning, which tests Lucid’s innovative production processes and state-of-the-art equipment, the company has already built its full beta prototype test fleet and is now transitioning to the construction of a final series of production-representative versions of the Lucid Air. The Lucid manufacturing system embraces advanced processes such as an aircraft-inspired riveted and bonded monocoque body structure replacing spot welds, which endows Lucid Air with state-of-the-art structural efficiency.”

As mentioned before, the company’s current factory will only cater to North America’s demands. Or at least for the first few years. Lucid already planned to keep this facility growing for the next eight years. During this period, the operational space will grow exponentially, with production numbers reaching almost 400,000 units annually at its peak.

Joining the Lucid Air’s production will be the company’s upcoming SUV, currently being developed under the title of “Project Gravity” and expected to go into production in late 2023. However, this date could be delayed too, keeping in mind that the Air’s production has already been delayed by a couple of years.

Lucid’s technology and its first all-electric model have been praised by everyone. And now, with the production facility ready, the company would love to deliver the pre-registered models of the Air soon.

And we sure would like to see that happen too!
