With a race-inspired design and a feather-light body, Oilstainlab’s HF-11 is rewriting the rules of modern hypercars.
Oilstainlab, a boutique car design company based in California, is making waves with its latest creation, the HF-11, a super-lightweight hypercar that draws inspiration from classic 1960s race cars. Known for its nostalgic approach to design, the company, founded by brothers Nikita and Iliya Bridan in 2019, is stepping into the ultra-exclusive world of low-volume production cars with this ambitious project.
The HF-11 is a serious nod to simplicity and performance. At just 2,000 pounds, it’s much lighter than most of today’s high-performance cars, which often tip the scales at around 3,000 pounds. That’s thanks to the extensive use of lightweight materials like a bespoke carbon-fiber monocoque. This keeps the car’s weight down while still providing modern safety and handling benefits. According to Oilstainlab, over 3,500 hours were spent perfecting the design to ensure that every component is lightweight and serves a purpose.
Powering the HF-11 is a naturally aspirated flat-six engine, capable of producing a whopping 650 horsepower and revving up to 12,500 RPM. While those numbers alone are impressive, Oilstainlab isn’t stopping there. They’re also offering an all-electric powertrain option that can be swapped out quickly, giving owners the flexibility to enjoy both gas-powered thrills and electric performance. A six-speed manual transmission is set to be paired with both powertrains, which will appeal to driving purists.
The car’s design is as much about function as it is about form. The HF-11 is small by modern standards, with an overall length of just 171 inches, similar to the size of a 993 Porsche. Its aerodynamic shape has been fine-tuned using computational fluid dynamics (CFD), a technique borrowed from Formula 1 racing. The goal was to create a car that looks gorgeous but also performs exceptionally well on the road and the track.
Oilstainlab has also kept things minimal on the inside. The HF-11 features a no-frills, race-focused interior, where even the switches are sourced from Formula 1 suppliers. The company has made a point of keeping everything as lightweight and functional as possible, even designing the door pockets to hold racing helmets—just in case you feel like taking the car to the track.
Only 25 units of the HF-11 will be produced, each starting at a cool $1.85 million. While that price tag places the HF-11 in the realm of ultra-exclusive supercars, Oilstainlab is aiming to offer something different from the mainstream. The car is designed to give drivers an engaging, thrilling experience, free from the distractions of modern electronics and heavy luxury features. It’s all about driving pleasure, pure and simple.
Although Oilstainlab is still working out some details, particularly with the all-electric powertrain, production is set to begin soon. The company is currently testing the electric setup in its Half-11 Prototype, a model that shares much of the same DNA as the HF-11. Once everything is finalized, these exclusive hypercars will start rolling out of Oilstainlab’s Signal Hill facility, ready to take on the best the boutique car world has to offer.
