Debuting in the 2023 Chicago Auto Show, the 2024 Atlas and the Atlas Cross Sport facelifts come with exterior and interior upgrades.
Since its debut in 2018, the VW Atlas already went through a facelift in 2021 but without many noticeable changes. However, now Volkswagen has worked a bit more on the design of the Atlas to make the brand’s largest SUV a bit more attractive.
The 2024 Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport get a new stylish and charming look, with substantial remakes on the outside. Most changes appear at the front, courtesy of updated grilles, an elegant light bar, and C-shaped headlights. Moreover, the faux chrome accents have been replaced with black ones.
Some other exterior upgrades on the facelifted 2024 Atlas worth mentioning are the new wheel designs and lighting features. The new catchy wheel design comes in sizes between 18 and 21 inches. Meanwhile, all trims except the Base one feature new light fixtures, including a large light bar in the rear.
However, the most drastic change in the 2024 Atlas is the retirement of the excellent 276-hp VR6 powertrain. Instead, the SUV will solely rely on a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder producing 269 hp and 273 lb-ft of torque. This engine’s power output is higher than the outgoing four-pot but less potent than the VR6. Not to mention, the six-cylinder engine was much more refined and sounded better.
Many changes await us in the cabin too. VW has focused more on customer experience, so the facelifted 2024 Atlas has nicer materials. Faux-leather upholstery takes up the dashboard and center console, while we find wood and plastic trims in the door panels.
All trims get a standard 12.0-inch infotainment display, a sizeable update from the older model. There is also a 10.3-inch digital gauge display for the driver; other essential features include a wireless smartphone charging pad and a bunch of fast-charging USB-C ports.
Volkswagen plans to roll out sales later this year, but pricing for the 2024 Atlas is unknown.
