2024 Subaru Crosstrek Arrives Stateside With A 182-HP Option

The third-gen 2024 Crosstrek looks almost identical to its predecessor, but it features thorough updates while keeping the price low.

Subaru introduced the brand-new Crosstrek at the 2023 Chicago Auto Show. The 2024 Crosstrek was already on sale for a few months in Japan, but the US-spec model comes with changes that make it more suitable for the American buyer.

A handful of features differentiate the US-spec 2024 Crosstrek from its Japanese counterpart. For example, the latter comes in all-wheel-drive and front-wheel-drive variants, while the US trims are strictly AWD. Subaru offers four trims in the US — Base, Premium, Sport, and Limited.

But crucially, the new Crosstrek is 10% stiffer than before, which aids with handling and comfort. Moreover, the sub-compact crossover features a class-leading 8.7-inch ground clearance, which, together with the symmetrical AWD system, makes it a surprisingly capable off-roader.

The engines aren’t very exciting, but at least there is a more powerful option for those seeking better performance. The Base and Premium trims boast a 2.0-liter four-pot boxer providing 152 hp and 145 lb-ft of torque. Meanwhile, the higher trims have a 2.5-liter boxer unit producing 182 hp and 178 lb-ft of torque. Unfortunately, Subaru dropped the six-speed manual option and only offers the 2024 Crossterk with the infamous CVT.

As for the visual upgrades, the 2024 Crosstrek has a new front fascia with a full-width logo bar connecting with the headlights on both sides. You can also notice a matte black grille on the Sport trim with a complex design and a gloss black finish on the center logo.

The Sport trim also features yellow accents on the outside and larger 18-inch wheels, making it stand out more. Meanwhile, the Base and Premium models get 17-inch alloys, while the Limited gets special 18-inch dark gray alloys.

Although very compact, the 2024 Crosstrek offers 54.7 cubic feet of storage space with the rear seats folded. The cabin is similar to the previous model but has a huge portrait-style 11.6-inch infotainment touchscreen with Subaru’s STARLINK software. Unfortunately, the entry-level Base model only gets a 7-inch screen, but like the higher-end variants, it also supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. All versions also get Subaru’s EyeSight driver-assistance features.

The 2024 Subaru Crosstrek will be manufactured in two places — the Base and Premium models will be made in Gunma, Japan. In contrast, the Sport and Limited trims will be built in Lafayette, Indiana.

Despite all the updates, the 2024 Crosstrek will remain accessible, with the Base model starting at $24,995, plus $1,295 for delivery. The complete price list is listed in the table below:

2024 Crosstrek
Model/Trim Transmission Applicable Option Code MSRP MSRP + destination and delivery
($1,295)
Base CVT 03 $24,995 $26,290
Premium CVT 13 $26,145 $27,440
Sport CVT 21 $28,995 $30,290
Limited CVT 31 $30,895 $32,190

The Japanese-built 2024 Crosstrek crossovers will arrive in the spring, while the American-manufactured models will be out in the summer.
