2024 Cupra Tavascan is Another Cool EV the US Won’t Get

Cupra’s all-electric SUV coupe boasts a striking design and VW’s EV technology — sadly, it’s not coming to the US yet.

Cupra just unveiled the production version of its 2024 Tavascan — the brand’s first all-electric SUV. Although it was designed and fully developed in Barcelona, the Spanish EV will be manufactured in VW‘s factory in China to meet the increasing demand in Asia.

The new Tavascan features a striking front grille with streamlined LED headlights with unique patterns, boasting a sleek, aerodynamic, and rather elegant look. The design is further accentuated by the sloping coupe roof and a choice of eye-catching 19, 20, or 21-inch wheels. And with exterior colors ranging from Tavascan Blue, White Silver, Atacama Desert, Urano Grey, Hypernova Red, to Century Bronze Matt, there’s a style for every taste.

The cabin is equally futuristic, with uniquely-designed air vents and a center console adding a touch of luxury to the overall aesthetic. The centerpiece is a 15-inch infotainment system boasting Human Machine Interface (HMI) technology, like the Cupra Formentor. Additionally, the Tavascan features eco-friendly yet sporty bucket seats, illuminated door panels, and a premium 12-speaker sound system.

Built on VW’s modern MEB platform, the Tavascan is available in two powertrain options — 210kW and 250kW. The base Tavascan Endurance features a 210 kW motor, delivering 282 hp and 402 lb-ft of torque. Meanwhile, the range-topper VZ delivers 335 hp and 501 lb-ft of torque from its 250 kW motor, with a claimed 0-60 mph time in only 5.6 seconds. As for the range, the bigger motor will do 323 miles, while the smaller one will reach 342 miles on a single charge.

Fast charging is also available on the Tavascan, with a 135 kW DC charger claimed to juice up the battery from 10% to 80% in under 30 minutes. In a hurry? A 7 minutes charge will give you around 62 extra miles — not bad, right?

That said, the real bummer is that Cupra’s new EV won’t make it to the US anytime soon — just like the brand itself. But last month, SEAT‘s high-performance branch did confirm the potential to enter the North American market someday, so the chance of seeing the Tavascan on our soil isn’t entirely shut.

Cross your finger, folks!
