The 2024 Silverado HD models boast upgraded engines, a new interior, and enhanced trailering technology, making them much more competitive in the increasingly popular heavy-duty segment.
The 2024 Silverado HD twins (2500HD and 3500HD) are not here to muck around, and the performance upgrades tell us that these trucks are genuinely heavy-duty. For starters, the 6.6-liter V8 gas engine now pairs with a new Allison 10-speed automatic transmission, allowing for even better in-gear acceleration. The engine still makes solid 401 hp of power and 464 lb-ft of torque, making it a solid option for most people.
However, if you tow frequently, you should go with the 6.6-liter V8 Duramax diesel engine. It also pairs with the 10-speed automatic but produces 470 hp and a much more useful 975 lb-ft of torque. Even more significant is the increase in low-end torque by 25%, which helps with towing, both in terms of performance and efficiency.
The 2024 Silverado HD also gets a refreshed exterior, with all trims featuring upgrades. From the intriguing grille to the unique C-shaped LED strip lights in the front, the truck has many elements that set it apart from the competition. The Silverado HDs also get fresh new wheels for each trim and new standard tow hooks, adding further to the package of a standard heavy-duty truck.
Of course, every trim comes with unique updates; Chevrolet also added a new trim, the ZR2, which was already available in the company’s other trucks. It’s a welcome addition to the range, particularly with off-roading becoming more popular.
Other visual updates include the new color options — Sterling Gray, Lakeshore Blue Metallic, Meteorite Metallic, Dark Ash, Radiant Red, and Auburn Metallic.
Inside, the 2024 Silverado HD attracts attention with new tech and styling upgrades. Chevy fitted a larger 13.4-inch touchscreen with Google Assistant capability. You can also find a fancy wireless charger and more space in the revised center console. However, the new tech features aren’t a part of the Work Truck or Custom trim levels, but you can find them in LT or higher.
Meanwhile, in the top-end High Country trim, the Silverado offers real wood accents and leather-wrapped surfaces. This is a proper luxury truck — it sports embroidered headrests and Ares leather front seats with heating and ventilation.
The 2024 Silverado 2500HD and 3500HD will go into production in the first half of the next year, and sales will follow soon, with the ZR2 model launching quickly after. Prices will be announced closer to the date of sales.
