2022 Peugeot 308 SW is a Seriously Sexy Wagon That Won’t Reach the US

You say wagons and estates aren’t as attractive as SUVs and crossovers? Try saying that after looking at the all-new 2022 Peugeot 308 SW.

Whereas other automakers are steadily reducing their wagon lineups, especially in the States, Europe begs to differ. That being said, it’s good to see brands like Peugeot still believing in their potential and proving that these long-riding cars are not inferior in any way to high-riding ones, and the 308 SW is a perfect example.

The new Peugeot 308 SW blends the appearance of the recently launched 308 family car with the utility of a wagon. It shares a majority of visual aspects with its stunning hatchback sibling, including the captivating front fascia with a large grille flanked by sharp saber-toothed LED DRLs. The most prominent changes appear mainly towards the rear end, revealing a longer roofline that flows seamlessly to meet the redesigned tailgate. Everything else appears the same as the hatchback, including the tri-pattern taillights, which now lack the black connecting bar, and the chrome decorative faux exhaust tips.

The wagon’s wheelbase is 55mm longer than the regular 308, at 107.5-inches in total, giving the rear passengers more knee room, while the ride height is dropped by 20mm. The trunk space is likely to be more than ample at 608 liters, up by 196-liters from the hatch. And if you still need more, the cargo space can be extended to 1,634-litres by folding the 40:20:40 second-row seats.

The interior of the 2022 Peugeot 308 SW receives no significant changes and retains the brand’s latest i-Cockpit dashboard from the 308 hatch. It has dual 10-inch displays for the 3D digital instrument cluster and infotainment system, the latter of which includes Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, along with Bluetooth and sat-nav. A set of i-toggle switches control some of the car’s core features, while other features include the ‘OK Peugeot’ voice assistant, four USB-C ports, a power-operated boot lid, a 10-speaker Focal premium audio unit, 8-color ambient lighting system, and more. Higher trim levels offer Alcantara and Nappa leather, as well as 10-way power-adjustable massaging and heated seats.

2022 Peugeot 308 SW

When it comes to powertrains, nothing has changed in the engine department either. Customers can choose from a range of engine options for the 2022 Peugeot 308 SW, including conventional ICEs and two plug-in hybrid powertrains. The PHEV variants start with a 150hp 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder petrol paired to a 12.4kWh battery pack and an 81kW electric motor for a combined output of 180hp. For a sportier drive, customers can also choose a 180hp version of the same engine, with an identical hybrid setup for a total of 225hp combined. In both cases, an eight-speed automatic transmission comes standard.

Then there’s a 1.2-liter turbocharged three-cylinder petrol available in two power output options, 110 and 130 horsepower. Finally, there is a single diesel option with a 1.5-liter four-cylinder turbo engine producing 130 hp. Both these engines are available with either a six-speed manual or an eight-speed automatic transmission.

The 2022 Peugeot 308 SW will be available in Europe by early 2022, following the arrival of its hatchback sibling. Prices have not been disclosed yet.
