Nissan will mark the end of the R35 Godzilla era with a 710-horsepower bang in 2022 when the automaker will introduce its Final Edition.
According to the Japanese automobile giant, the Final Edition would be a limited run production with only 20 units up for sale. It is expected to be priced at a cool 40 million yen or about $377,300 after conversion. It is much heftier compared to the 2021 Nissan GT-R Nismo ($210,740), but a sliver compared to the GT-R R50 by Italdesign with a $1 million price tag.
The powerplant is said to be based on the GT-R R50 — a 3.8 liter turbocharged V6, producing a monstrous 710 HP and 780 Nm of torque! The engine on the GT-R50 took the original GT-R’s engine and galvanized it with competition-spec turbochargers, larger intercooler, high-flow piston oil jets, revised camshaft profiles, high-flow fuel injectors, optimized ignition, and revised intake and exhaust systems. The engine would be mated to a six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
Along with the Final edition, Nissan has reportedly been working on the R36 and hybridizing it with the KERS technology used in the GT-R LM Nismo prototype from 2015. The system in the GT-R LM race car sent energy to a pair of flywheels mounted near the front brake assembly. It then harnessed this energy under braking and sent it to the front and rear axles via independent driveshafts.
As of now, there are only limited details about the final edition and the next-gen R36. More details are to be revealed later, but until then, the waiting game continues.
