GMC just announced the 2022 Sierra truck with some fresh styling, revamped interior with larger displays, and many other features!
Under GM’s watch, the GMC Sierra and the Chevy Silverado spanned over two decades and four generations of development until the present day. Consequently, this meant that many parts were shared between the two trucks, including powertrains, interior and exterior design cues, and other hardware. It was no surprise that critics quickly pointed out the lack of personality differences and outdated technology between the trucks, leading to partial cannibalization of the respective sales. However, the latest 2022 GMC Sierra promises to rewrite that script with an all-new interior and a host of other interesting features.
Outside, the 2022 Sierra sure looks more contemporary and rugged in contrast to its previous iterations. For starters, a massive grille dominates the front fascia, with contrasting oval-shaped elements enhancing the muscular appeal. GMC also implemented D-shaped DRLs surrounding the full LED headlamps.
Meanwhile, the squared-off wheel arches on the sides can now accommodate wheels from 17’ to 22’ with a complete off-road set of tires. Similarly, the rear-end is modernly wrapped with LED taillights and a large GMC logo on the tailgate.
The 2022 GMC Sierra also comes with four different engines and two transmissions. The entry-level offering features the familiar 2.7-liter turbocharged i4 engine in tandem with an 8-speed auto transmission. It produces 310 horses and an impressive 420 lb-ft of torque.
The remaining engines include the 5.3 L V8 (355 hp, 388 lb-ft), 6.2 L V8 (420 hp, 460 lb-ft), and the 3.0-liter Duramax Diesel (277 hp, 420 lb-ft), all hooked up to a 10-speed automatic. If you fancy a bit of off-roading, opting for the AT4X variant will add a two-speed transfer case, front and rear-locking e-differentials, plus a bunch of other goodies.
The interior of the 2022 GMC Sierra is a huge step up from the previous model. Firstly, GM bestowed the Sierra with a fully customizable 13.3-inch infotainment touchscreen with standard Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, Amazon Alexa, and Google’s built-in suite of apps like Maps, Movies & TV, Reminders, etc. Complementing it is another 12.4-inch driver’s instrument cluster with a raft of different viewing options.
There’s also an option to fit a 15-inch multicolor HUD (Head’s-up display), taking the total screen real estate to a mammoth 40-inches. Building a plush ambiance around the screens is a Paleo wood trim along with full-grain leather on the seats, dashboard, steering wheel, door trims, and handles.
It’s also worth mentioning that GM will also equip the Super Cruise system as standard (Denali Ultimate) or optional (other trims). The latest update allows one to traverse relatively hands-free across 200,000 miles of roadways across the US and Canada. The system also includes 360-degree view (14 cameras), GCW, trailer blind-spot detection, collision warning system, pedestrian warning, lane keep assist, and adaptive cruise control.
Overall, the 2022 Sierra elevates the pickup truck battle with an improved interior quality, higher towing capacity (up to 13,000 lbs), and the Super Cruise system. Pricing will start at $32,495 for the Sierra Pro, $74,995 for the AT4X, and $80,395 for the Denali Ultimate.
Expect the new truck to hit dealerships across the country starting next year!
