2022 Chevrolet Bolt EV and EUV Arrive in the US

With the introduction of the all-new 2022 Chevrolet Bolt EUV, General Motors expanded its all-electric lineup even further.

It’s already been almost half a year since General Motors first teased the introduction of an all-new electric vehicle. But they are finally here! GM launched two vehicles on Sunday: the Bolt EV and Bolt EUV, the former being a revamped version of the current model launched back in 2016 while the latter is a brand new offering.

The 2016 Bolt EV was GM’s first serious attempt to enter the all-electric vehicle market. It was a decent hit initially, mainly due to its 200-mile range, which was pretty impressive at the time, and it was quite affordable too. However, the Bolt EV started losing market shares as Tesla rose to the top and the increasing competition in the previously almost non-existing EV market.

With the facelifted Bolt EV, GM looks to regain its former glory when it comes to all-electric vehicles. The all-new Bolt EV now features new headlights coupled with “high-eye” daytime running LED lights. The faux grille has now been removed, the rear bumper is now slightly curved a bit, and all-new taillights have been installed.

The freshly introduced 2022 Chevrolet Bolt EUV, quite similar to the Bolt EV variant, is 6.3 inches longer with a longer wheelbase by 2.9 inches, good enough for 3.91 inches of extra legroom in the rear.

The Bolt EUV basically comes with every features present on the EV, plus a couple more perks. For instance, the EUV variant comes with a standard wireless smartphone charger, a panoramic sunroof, and heated and ventilated front seats. It’s also the first Chevy to feature the GM’s Super Cruise autonomous driving system, allowing for hands-free driving on more than 200,000 miles of roads across the US and Canada.

Powertrain

The 2022 Chevrolet Bolt EV and EUV feature a 65 kWh lithium-ion battery powering an electric motor generating 201 hp and 266 lb-ft of torque. Thanks to the smaller size, the EV is said to have a range of 259 miles, while the EUV would go 250 miles on a single charge. Both vehicles also support 11 kW DC fast charging, adding 100 miles of range to the EV and 95 miles for the EUV in only 30 minutes.

Pricing

The 2022 Bolt EV will carry a price tag of $31,995, $5,500 cheaper than last year’s model, while the Bolt EUV will start at $33,995.

Let’s see how GM fares in the increasingly competitive electric vehicle segment in the months to come.
