Toyota sharpens the Corolla Sedan with the Apex edition, just before Gazoo-Racing comes up with its own version of the hatchback.
Toyota just announced the 2021 Corolla Apex Edition, a sporty version of the family sedan, available in two trim levels — the entry-level Apex SE and the regular Apex XSE model. And luckily, the premium to pay to get your hands on one is relatively reasonable. For instance, the Apex SE trim costs only $2,695 more than the regular Corolla SE model.
Specifically, Apex SE starts from $26,065, while the price of Apex XSE is $29,205. Besides, if you want a manual transmission, you’ll need to shell out an additional $390, which brings the price to almost $30,000.
The sportier variant will include a custom black body kit with bronze accents, a front splitter, fog light covers, side skirts, and a rear diffuser.
Other notable features include black mirror caps and 18-inch cast-aluminum wheels, saving 2.2 lbs (1 kg) per wheel. Toyota also tweaked the suspension system and lowered it by 0.6 inches.
Furthermore, Toyota’s engineers reduced the roll angle and increased the spring rate for better handling. Moreover, to increase rigidity, they also added new stabilizer bars and tuned shocks.
However, Toyota didn’t make any changes to the powertrain. All Apex trims will come with the same 2.0-liter Dynamic Force engine, producing 169 hp at 6,600 rpm and 151 lb-ft (205 Nm) of torque.
Toyota is coming up with 6,000 examples of the Corolla Apex Edition. However, only 120 will be available with the six-speed iMT manual gearbox.
