The 2021 Kia Rio arrives in the US with exciting new features and a price tag only $200 higher.
The new-look is similar to its European sibling and features similar updates. The 2021 Kia Rio will be available in two styles — Sedan and Hatchback. Buyers interested in the hatchback only have the S trim level on offer, while the sedan comes in LX and S trims.
Although Kia bumped the standard equipment and features, the 2021 Kia Rio remains the same under the hood. A 102HP 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine paired with a CVT, putting out a not-half-bad 41 mpg EPA range.
The refreshed Rio got some aesthetic updates, though. It features a sportier front fascia along with a new grille and a new set of front and rear bumpers. Meanwhile, a new mesh-pattern central intake promises better engine cooling, increasing the overall efficiency.
Inside, the Rio boasts a huge 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system supporting Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Although Kia hasn’t released any interior photos yet, it’ll probably be the same as the European variant.
The base model – the 2021 Rio LX starts at $17,015, making it one of the cheapest cars out there.
For what’s worth, the LX comes with all basic features such as AC, power windows/locks, a four-speaker audio system in addition to a 3.5-inch display, and 15-inch steel wheels.
Meanwhile, the pricier Rio S, costing $600 more, comes with LED headlights, keyless entry, and cruise control. The split-folding rear seat, rear USB charger, and a front-center armrest also come as standard. The S Trim Sedan starts at $17,655, and the hatchback S trim starts at $17,955.
Specific to the S trim, Kia now offers an optional technology package. It includes 15-inch alloy wheels, push-button ignition, and an automatic climate control system. Even on the entertainment front, the package features a bigger 4.2-inch instrument cluster display and a Sirius satellite radio. The technology package will set you back $1,800.
More details to come.
