Mercedes-Benz’s upcoming electric flagship, the EQS, will feature an interior putting most EVs to shame.
The new Mercedes-Benz EQS quite literally looks like a “vehicle from another planet.” Mercedes redefined progressive luxury and ushered in a new era of “intelligent driving” where sustainability combines with cutting-edge technology and awe-inspiring aesthetics to give the driver an unreal experience.
The car’s interior is electrifying, to say at the least, which might sound like a bad pun but stands entirely true. Mercedes-Benz design architects left no stone unturned to combine glass elements, ambient lighting, premium materials, and futuristic design to present an interior that transcends the barrier of space and time and truly gives the feel of sitting in a hi-tech concept car.
A Massive 56-inch Dashboard Hyperscreen
What stands out in the EQS’s interior design is the 56-inch-wide Hyperscreen display, stretching across the entire dashboard. Three individual displays are effortlessly seamed together under a single curved glass panel and feature 12 actuators located under the glass surface for haptic feedback.
More specifically, the Hyperscreen consists of a 12.3-inch digital instrument display behind the steering wheel, a 17.7-inch infotainment screen just above the central console, and a 12.3-inch display panel with seven profiles for the passenger seat. Furthermore, the system features Mercedes’ latest MBUX software with over-the-air software update support.
The hardware is also very impressive, featuring an eight-core CPU coupled with 24 GB of RAM. As a result, the driver will have unprecedented control over the car and the journey. Besides, thanks to artificial intelligence, the MBUX system adapts to the user’s specific needs and thus forms an ’emotional’ connection between the vehicle, the driver, and passengers.
Futuristic Ambiance
The integrated ambient lighting of the Mercedes-Benz EQS amplifies its sci-fi look. The lighting makes the digital display unit seems to float above the instrument panel and also changes its tones based on the climate inside the cabin. However, the MBUX Hyperscreen does not come as a standard feature and is quite an expensive upgrade, as one can expect. Customers can opt for a more traditional 12.8-inch free floating vertical display, engineered seamlessly onto the central console, similar to an S-class. The EQS also comes with a customizable trim panel with the customer’s choice of finishes.
Mercedes-Benz further adheres to its sustainability policy by providing animal-free seats made of high-grade leatherette and microfibre. The steering wheel comes in two different styles. There is a newer slot design and a more conventional AMG line design with two horizontal fins, equipped with an array of capacitive buttons. Meanwhile, even in the most polluted cities, passengers breathe in clean air thanks to the HEPA filter removing 99.65% of the SPM in the air.
Furthermore, drivers can choose between four different sound modes, ranging from a quiet and serene mode (Silent) to a sporty mode that resembles the roaring of a traditional combustion engine (Roaring Pulse). The other two modes are Silver Wave and Vivid Flux.
The EQS luxury sedan will be unveiled on April 15 and hit the markets in August 2021.
