Staying True to Its All-Electric Goal, Jaguar Will Stop Selling Cars Until Its New EV Launches in 2026

That means no new car sales for an entire year!

Jaguar is making a bold move as it transitions to an all-electric future. The iconic British car brand has announced that it won’t be selling any new cars for an entire year, starting in early 2025. This comes as Jaguar prepares to roll out its new lineup of electric vehicles, marking the end of an 88-year tradition of offering internal combustion engine (ICE) cars.

The change will take effect by the end of 2024 in Europe and by early 2025 in the U.K. The only model that will continue production into 2025 is the F-Pace SUV. However, once the F-Pace is discontinued, there will be no new Jaguars available for purchase until the carmaker’s new electric vehicles hit the market in 2026.

During this gap year, Jaguar dealerships will shift their focus to selling used cars and providing aftersales services. It’s a significant challenge for the brand, but Jaguar’s Managing Director, Rawdon Glover, remains optimistic. He confirmed that while new car sales will pause, the brand is committed to returning with a strong electric lineup.

Jaguar’s first new electric model, set to debut in 2026, will be a GT car designed to compete with high-end rivals like the Porsche Taycan. This sleek, four-door vehicle is expected to deliver 575 horsepower and a range of over 435 miles. The price tag? Around £100,000. Jaguar plans to reveal a concept version of this car in December 2023, giving fans a taste of what’s to come.

Following the GT car, Jaguar will introduce an SUV and a limousine, both expected to arrive by 2028. These new models are aimed at competing with luxury vehicles like the Bentley Bentayga and Flying Spur. Jaguar is clearly positioning itself as a high-end electric vehicle brand, focusing on quality and exclusivity rather than high sales volumes.

Despite these sweeping changes, one thing that won’t be disappearing is Jaguar’s iconic leaping cat logo. Glover addressed rumors that the brand’s famous emblem might be scrapped, reassuring fans that it will remain an essential part of Jaguar’s identity. However, the logo will be “reimagined” to align with the brand’s new direction.

Jaguar’s decision to pause new car sales is a risky one, especially in a market where many automakers are still balancing between electric and traditional vehicles. However, Jaguar is committed to its vision of an all-electric future, even if it means a temporary absence from the showroom floor.
