Forget everything you know about Jaguar — the Type 00 is here to rewrite the new era of the brand.
Jaguar has officially pulled the wraps off its bold Type 00 Concept, showcasing its vision for an all-electric future. The concept, unveiled at Miami Art Week, blends cutting-edge design with a minimalist aesthetic, hinting at what we can expect from Jaguar’s upcoming EVs. It’s not a production car, but it offers a clear glimpse into the brand’s transformation as it steps into the electric era.
The Type 00 Concept is striking from every angle. With its long hood, fastback roofline, and razor-thin lighting, it’s clear Jaguar wants to make a statement. The design philosophy, dubbed “Exuberant Modernism,” focuses on geometric shapes and simplicity while paying subtle homage to Jaguar’s rich heritage. For instance, brass ingots on the exterior house rear-facing cameras, and the concept ditches a traditional rear window for a “pantograph tailgate.” The butterfly doors and full-width taillights add to its futuristic vibe.
Inside, the Type 00 takes things even further. The cabin feels more like an art installation than a traditional car interior. A brass spine runs down the center, segmenting flat seats upholstered in a wool blend inspired by handwoven textiles. The seats and spine are supported by travertine stone—a bold choice that ties into the design’s architectural influences. Screens rise from the dash when needed but can be hidden for a clean, tech-free look. Jaguar even designed “totems” made from materials like brass and alabaster that can alter the car’s lighting, scent, and ambient sounds, though it’s unclear if these will make it to production.
Underneath, the Type 00 is built on Jaguar’s new JEA platform, which is tailor-made for electric vehicles. Jaguar claims the platform will deliver an EPA-estimated range of 430 miles, with fast-charging capabilities that can add 200 miles of range in just 15 minutes. While the concept doesn’t dive into powertrain specifics, the focus is clearly on long-range performance and sleek styling.
Jaguar plans to debut its first production model inspired by the Type 00—a four-door grand tourer—by late 2025, with sales starting in 2026. Early spy photos suggest the production car will share the concept’s low, elegant proportions and fastback silhouette. The grand tourer will be followed by more models as Jaguar builds out its EV lineup.
This ambitious new direction marks a significant shift for Jaguar, a brand that’s faced dwindling sales in recent years. CEO Adrian Mardell sees the Type 00 as a way to recapture the magic of Jaguar’s iconic models, like the legendary E-type. By focusing on artistry, luxury, and innovation, Jaguar hopes to appeal to a younger, affluent audience ready to embrace the electric revolution.
The Type 00 Concept may not hit the streets, but its influence will shape Jaguar’s EV future. With its daring design, unique materials, and cutting-edge platform, it’s a bold step forward for a brand looking to redefine itself in a rapidly changing industry. Whether this new vision resonates with consumers remains to be seen, but one thing’s for sure—Jaguar isn’t playing it safe.
