“Chinese Cybertruck” Is Here: Changan Nevo E07 EV Pickup is the Cybertruck Done Right

What if Tesla’s Cybertruck had a smaller, more flexible sibling? Meet China’s answer: the Changan Nevo E07.

Changan has just opened pre-sales for its latest electric vehicle, the Nevo E07, which is being dubbed the “Chinese Cybertruck” for its futuristic design and transforming capabilities. Priced starting at $35,400, the Nevo E07 offers a unique mix of SUV and pickup truck features that are sure to catch attention in the EV market.

The Nevo E07 stands out due to its ability to switch between an SUV and a pickup truck. The vehicle features a retractable electric top cover that turns the rear section into a small truck bed. While the bed is only around three feet long, it can be extended by folding down a midgate, much like the Chevy Silverado EV. Though its payload capacity is modest at 661 pounds, it’s designed more for lifestyle activities like camping or weekend trips, rather than heavy-duty hauling.

Size-wise, the Nevo E07 is slightly larger than a Hyundai Santa Cruz but still smaller than a Ford Ranger SuperCrew. It offers enough space for utility without feeling overly bulky. Its modern, sloped design and clever functionality have earned it the nickname “Chinese Cybertruck” in China, and it’s easy to see why. While it doesn’t have the same imposing presence as Tesla’s Cybertruck, its more approachable, versatile design is a strong point of appeal.

Under the hood, the Nevo E07 comes in several variants. The Extended Range Electric Vehicle (EREV) version offers both single-motor and dual-motor setups. The single-motor version delivers 231 kW of power, while the dual-motor option bumps that up to 310 kW. The EREV variant has a 39.05 kWh battery pack, providing a pure electric range of up to 200 km.

For the all-electric (EV) version, power output is even more impressive, with the single-motor version producing 252 kW and the dual-motor variant delivering up to 338 kW. Depending on the model, the EV versions offer ranges of 551 km, 651 km, 701 km, and even up to 1,000 km on a single charge. The vehicle also supports fast charging, allowing for a 365 km range after just 15 minutes of charging.

The Nevo E07’s interior continues the theme of sleek, modern design. The minimalist cabin lacks a traditional instrument panel, relying instead on a 28.86-inch AR-HUD system and a 15.4-inch central control screen for most functions. The steering wheel features a scroll design for controlling various aspects of the vehicle, and there’s even a hidden entertainment screen for the co-pilot, accessible through AI voice commands.

Built on Changan’s SDA architecture, the Nevo E07 is designed to be smart and tech-forward. It features Level 2+ autonomous driving assistance, backed by sensors that include two lidars, five millimeter-wave radars, 12 ultrasonic radars, and 11 high-definition cameras. The vehicle is powered by NVIDIA’s Orin-x intelligent driving chip, ensuring a smooth and capable driving experience.

Pre-sales for the Nevo E07 have already begun, with mass production scheduled to start in October. Deliveries are expected before the end of the year. With its combination of cutting-edge technology, flexible design, and competitive pricing, the Nevo E07 could be a strong contender in the growing global EV market—though it remains to be seen if or when this “Chinese Cybertruck” will make its way to markets outside of China.
