With a price tag that’s a fraction of its European rivals, BYD’s Yangwang U9 offers impressive performance and luxury features.
BYD, known for its affordable electric vehicles, is stepping into the luxury market with its first electric supercar, the Yangwang U9. Production of this highly anticipated car has started, and deliveries are set to begin in late August. The Yangwang U9 is part of BYD’s new premium brand, launched earlier this year to showcase their capabilities in the high-end EV market.
The Yangwang U9 comes with a hefty price tag of 1.68 million yuan, or around $232,000. This supercar boasts impressive specs, including a lightning-fast 0-100 km/h acceleration time of just 2.36 seconds. It’s powered by a cutting-edge four-motor setup, delivering a whopping 1680 Nm of torque. With a top speed of 309.19 km/h and the ability to sprint 400 meters in 9.78 seconds, this car is designed to compete with the likes of Ferrari and Lamborghini.
Measuring 4,966 mm in length, 2,029 mm in width, and 1,295 mm in height, the Yangwang U9 is comparable in size to a Lamborghini Aventador. It features a carbon fiber roof and rear diffuser as standard, with an optional racing spoiler. Buyers can choose from colors like silver, purple, and red, adding to the car’s luxurious appeal.
Inside, the Yangwang U9 offers a mix of luxury and technology. The interior is decked out with carbon fiber trim and suede upholstery, providing a sporty yet sophisticated atmosphere. The car includes multiple screens, including a 10.25-inch driver display, a 12.3-inch infotainment screen, and an additional 10.25-inch screen for the passenger. Other features include ambient lighting, an intelligent Star River screen, a Dynaudio Platinum sound system, and multifunctional sports seats, making it a high-tech marvel.
The car is powered by an 80 kWh battery, offering a range of up to 450 km on the CLTC cycle. It also supports fast charging, allowing the battery to go from 30% to 80% in just 10 minutes. For those with a little more time, a full charge from 30% using slow charging takes about 7 hours. One of the standout features of the Yangwang U9 is the DiSus-X suspension and stabilization system, which even allows the car to perform unique stunts like driving on three wheels, jumping, and even dancing.
BYD is also offering some perks for early buyers. Those who place a deposit by July 31, 2024, will receive a complimentary TPU paint protection film (Longfilm series) and a lifetime warranty covering the car’s battery, motors, and electric control system. This warranty is transferable, providing peace of mind for all future owners.
Customers eagerly awaiting their new supercars can track the estimated arrival time through the Yangwang app or WeChat mini program. If there are any delays, BYD will compensate owners with 2,000 credit points per day, equivalent to 200 yuan, which can be used for car servicing.
With the Yangwang U9, BYD is making a bold statement in the luxury EV market, challenging established brands like Ferrari and Lamborghini. As deliveries begin and these supercars hit the roads, it will be fascinating to see how this new contender measures up against the industry’s best.
