A multi-million-dollar hypercar turning into a heap of charred metal has prompted Koenigsegg to take drastic safety measures.
Koenigsegg has issued a warning to all Jesko owners following a dramatic fire incident in Greece that left one of its hypercars completely destroyed. The fiery ordeal occurred on June 15th during a road rally near the city of Marousi. Fortunately, no one was injured, but the car, a rare Jesko Attack “Nür Edition,” was reduced to a twisted mass of burnt metal.
The car had been delivered to its owner just weeks before the incident and had only about 100 miles on the clock. The fire started shortly after the car left a hotel and quickly engulfed the vehicle. Despite the efforts to extinguish the flames, the Jesko was a total loss, with only the wheels and part of the rear structure still recognizable.
Koenigsegg has taken swift action in response to this incident. The company sent a message to the 28 Jesko owners worldwide, advising them to stop driving their cars until the cause of the fire is determined. “Out of an abundance of caution, we ask all Jesko owners and drivers to hold off on driving their cars until we have had a chance to understand the situation better,” the message reportedly stated.
The Jesko in question was part of the “6to6 Europe Tour 2024,” an event that features a convoy of high-end supercars traveling through Europe. The car, known for its exposed carbon fiber with gold inlay, was a standout participant. The rally, which began in Athens and was set to conclude in Monaco, had to proceed without one of its most spectacular entrants.
Eyewitnesses reported seeing the car driven aggressively before the fire, contrary to initial reports that it was moving at slow speeds. Additionally, the temperature on that day was close to 100 degrees Fahrenheit, which could have been a contributing factor to the incident. However, Koenigsegg has not yet confirmed any details about the cause of the fire.
The Jesko, named after the father of Koenigsegg’s founder, Christian von Koenigsegg, is nothing but a powerful car. It boasts a 5.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine that delivers 1,280 horsepower on standard fuel and an astonishing 1,600 horsepower on E85 biofuel. This allows the car to achieve top speeds over 300 mph, making it one of the fastest production cars in the world.
