2023 Tesla Model S and Model X’s updates include a new color option, a lighter glass roof, and improved brake pads on the Plaid model.
Recently, Tesla surprised us all by releasing a new exterior color scheme named Ultra Red, only available on the Tesla Model S and Model X manufactured at the Fremont factory. And while the new paint job looks quite stunning, Tesla will charge you a hefty $3,000 price for it, which is not cheap change.
In essence, the Ultra Red is replacing the previously available Multi-Coat Red color, which you can actually still select on the Model 3 and Model Y. But for those preferring a darker and richer red than the outgoing hue, the new color definitely looks sexier. To us, the Ultra Red sure does appear more complex, but a 3 grand premium seems to be pushing it a little.
Still, props to the EV manufacturer for creating new color options in the first place. In the past, Tesla has already been criticized for sticking to relatively basic colors, plus a few more selections like Midnight Cherry Red and Quicksilver. But while those were European market exclusives, Ultra Red is now available worldwide. And — a more glamorous paint is definitely welcomed, especially from those who’ve waited over five years for a new US Model S and Model X color palette.
In addition, Tesla also provided several feature updates for both its flagships. One of them is a newly designed lighter glass roof for the Model S and X, allowing 5x more light into the cabin while maintaining the same level of UV protection. The lighter glass is also said to improve handling by lowering the vehicle’s center of gravity even further.
The recent update also includes improved brake pads for the range-topping Plaid trim — basically an answer to the widespread criticism regarding the stock brakes not providing enough stopping power. Thus the new brake pads come with a higher thermal capacity to improve overall brake performance.
Though all these updates are pretty minor, we’re still excited to see the Ultra Red paint hitting the street soon!
