The Ram 1500 Revolution BEV is built on an exclusive EV platform, unlike the F-150 Lightning and Silverado EV, giving it an upper hand over the competition.
Electric trucks are hot right now. From Ford F-150 Lighting to Chevy Silverado EV, traditional automakers are slowly establishing their dominance in this particular segment. Not to mention, Tesla should launch the highly anticipated Cybertruck by the end of the year, which should top the selling charts.
So, it is understandable that Stellantis’ Ram truck division wants a piece of the cake with the 1500 EV Revolution Concept. The company introduced its first electric truck at CES 2023 in Las Vegas, aiming to give customers everything they would expect from a regular truck, albeit in an all-electric form. And no, this is not an empty statement because Ram involved customers’ input in the development.
Mike Koval, Ram’s CEO, said in an interview that the brand’s engineers got in touch with a handful of owners of Ram Tour. From them, they collected enough information about the general expectations that customers had from an electric pickup. So, Ram collected the necessary details and started working on the Revolution Concept — a pickup that would satisfy everyone’s expectations and exceed them.
On the outside, the Ram 1500 Revolution Concept is quite a looker. The styling is much more streamlined than regular gas trucks, thanks to the low roofline and the neatly integrated truck bed. Moreover, Ram incorporated a full glass roof to give passengers an airier feel. The LED lighting also catches our eyes, particularly the “tuning fork” headlights and illuminated Ram logo sitting between them.
The Ram 1500 Revolution Concept rides on the STLA Frame Architecture developed for EVs. It is an all-wheel-drive truck with 15 degrees of rear articulation, a standard dual-motor setup, and an 800-volt architecture. The truck also sports a multi-height air suspension with three modes.
The Ram concept truck comes with a truckload of features, pun intended. Although the automaker has not given us any definite figure regarding the range, towing, or hauling, we know that the charging rate is insane; charging up to 350 kW, the Ram 1500 Revolution can gain up to 100 miles of range in just 10 minutes. As for the enticing features, it offers an interactive infotainment system where you can separate the screen as a standalone tablet. Oh, add a retractable steering wheel and level 3-plus autonomous driving to the list.
However, the most exciting feature is the Shadow mode — activate it, and your truck will follow you like a puppy. Nope, we are serious — this voice-activated feature will be handy if the driver wants to move the truck a short distance to pick up some tools or equipment. Sensors and cameras will keep the electric truck at a safe distance from the driver.
The Ram 1500 Revolution also offers more space inside than its ICE counterpart, including third-row jump seats in a full-size pickup truck for the first time. The chairs don’t seem particularly comfortable, but they still include seat belts and speakers to keep the passengers entertained.
Production should start by 2024 — although we are unsure if all these features will reflect in the final version.
