2023 Toyota Prius Starts At $28,545 — Not Bad For A 194-HP Hybrid

The highly stylish, completely revamped 2023 Prius now comes with a base price tag of $28,545, which is $2,375 more than its predecessor, quite a modest increase for the added 73 hp.

Last month when the 2023 Prius Hybrid was introduced at the LA Auto Show, everyone was shocked. The Prius has constantly been ridiculed for being uncool due to its mediocre style and sub-par performance. But the all-new model completely remedies that and looks sharp and cool while bringing a significant power increase.

One month after the launch, Toyota released the prices, trims, and other related details. The 2023 Toyota Prius Hybrid starts at $28,545 for the base LE trim, with the price going as high as $35,865 for the Limited AWD trim. It will be available in three trims — LE, XLE, and Limited. All-wheel-drive with an electric motor on the back axle is available in all trims for $1,400.

For 2023, Toyota ditched the Eco model and replaced it with the LE, which will still be the most fuel-efficient model, providing 57 mpg. Considering Prius’ 194 hp and 0-60 time of 7.2 seconds, it’s an excellent figure. However, due to the larger wheels, the XLE and Limited trims have a 52-mpg rating.

Toyota still didn’t release any information regarding the plug-in hybrid Prius Prime, a more exciting model now that EV sales are accelerating. Still, we will get details on the Prime next year and hope for competitive prices.

All 2023 Prius trims will get Toyota’s latest Safety Sense 3.0 as standard. The system includes a Collision System with Pedestrian Detection, Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Lane Tracing Assist, and Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist. Thus, it can steer, accelerate, and decelerate if the driver keeps the hand on the steering wheel, like in most luxury cars.

The base trim LE has 17-inch wheels, blind spot monitoring, and an 8.0-inch infotainment touchscreen. However, you can upgrade to a larger and much better 12.3-inch screen for $610. Meanwhile, the XLE costs $31,990 and comes with 19-inch wheels, a wireless smartphone charging pad, and an eight-way adjustable power seat for the driver. You can add a fixed glass roof to the LE and XLE for $1,000.

The top-of-the-line trim, Limited, starts at $35,560 and adds the larger infotainment as standard. Other notable additions are a JBL audio system, a fixed standard glass roof, and heated and ventilated front seats. Toyota also offers special features like a digital rearview mirror ($200) and heated rear seats ($350).

The 2023 Prius will hit dealers in North America by the beginning of next year, probably even by January. There is no word on availability, with Toyota having issues delivering enough units of its battery-powered vehicles lately, particularly plug-in hybrids and EVs.
