Porsche Confirms the Launch of an All-Electric Three-Row SUV

Porsche’s flagship electric SUV will probably utilize a unique 920V architecture, enabling it blazing fast charging speeds and exceptional performance.

During Porsche’s capital markets day in Weissach, Germany, the company confirmed the launch of an all-electric flagship SUV. Although particulars haven’t surfaced yet, we know the new SUV will be placed above the Cayenne and Macan.

The news of an all-electric SUV coincides with Porsche’s upcoming initial public offering (IPO), serving as a perfect opportunity to win over investors.

Porsche CEO Oliver Blume said he aims to further expand the brand’s position in the luxury automotive segment. To achieve this, it will not only target higher-margin segments but also tap into new sales opportunities.

Porsche also looks to further enrich its EV portfolio as it claims to step up its “electric offensive” with the SUV. Moreover, the company promised to offer the 718 exclusively in an all-electric form by 2025. And by 2025, Porsche wants BEVs and PHEVs to constitute 50 percent of its global sales, which will go up to 80% by 2030.

Porsche Taycan Sport Turismo

The all-electric Porsche SUV is codenamed K1 and will be assembled in the Leipzig factory along with the upcoming Macan EV. However, unlike its smaller sibling, the new EV will be an all-new model with three seating rows, as confirmed by Automotive News.

Besides, it will share tech with the Porsche Mission R concept, which packs a 1,073-hp AWD powertrain consisting of a 429-hp front motor and a 644-hp rear one. Obviously, we don’t expect the K1 to feature similar specs, but going even remotely close to these figures would be a big achievement, especially considering it is a three-row SUV. Still, we do expect Mission R’s direct oil-cooled electric motor and the 920-volt architecture for super-fast charging.

Earlier this year, Porsche had also promised to build its charging stations to make traveling more convenient for its customers. CEO Oliver Blume also said, “We are jointly investing in premium charging stations alongside partners and our own charging infrastructure.”

Porsche seems to understand the market and adapt very well to modern trends. First, it realized the demand for SUVs is over the roof, especially with five of the top 10 best-selling vehicles in America being SUVs. Then it responded to the EV revolution and enjoyed success on the back of its first-ever EV, the Taycan. Who would believe Porsche’s best-selling car is not an ICE but an EV (Taycan), right!? Let’s see what the best of both worlds (SUV and electric powertrain) gets us!
